Default Letter of Invitation - Immigration Canada

Hello,

I know this question has been asked many times before and I have done a lot of research on this, but I would appreciate any advice, suggestions or tips. I've found bits and pieces in the threads but it would be nice to have an answer from anyone who can offer their wisdom! I am so confused and don't know what to do really...

My Dominican boyfriend is currently trying to get a Visitor Visa to come visit me in Canada. From what I understand, I need to provide a Letter of Invitation. What exactly do I need to put in that letter? Besides the invitation, is there anything else I need to submit. I am helping him to pay for his passport and visa applications, what is the approximate cost?

Thank you so much!!!

Default Requirments

Sometimes a person applying for a Temporary Resident Visa to visit Canada is asked to provide a letter of invitation from someone in Canada. The following information will help you prepare such a letter to send to a relative or friend abroad.
A letter of invitation does not guarantee that a visa will be issued. Visa officers assess the applicant to determine whether they meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Note
The following information is only a guide. You must write the letter of invitation yourself. Some visa offices may require that your letter be notarized by a Notary Public.
Send your letter (notarized if necessary) to the person you are inviting to Canada. They must then submit this letter to the Canadian Embassy or Consulate outside of Canada when they apply for their Temporary Resident Visa.
Your letter must include the following information about the person being invited:
 • Complete name.
 • Date of birth.
 • The person’s address and telephone number.
 • Your relationship to the person being invited.
 • The purpose of the trip.
 • How long the person you are inviting intends to stay in Canada.
 • Details on accommodation and living expenses.
 • The date the person you are inviting intends to leave Canada.
Your letter must also include the following information about yourself:
 • Complete name.
 • Date of birth.
 • Address and telephone number in Canada.
 • Occupation.
 • Whether you are a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
 • A photocopy of a document proving your status in Canada. For instance, a Canadian birth certificate if you were born in Canada or a Canadian citizenship card if you are a naturalized citizen. If you are Permanent Resident, you must send proof of your permanent resident status (a copy of your PR card or your IMM 1000 proof of landing).

Taken from Letter of invitation for countries whose citizens require a temporary resident visa to enter Canada

The fact that you are paying for his passport and VISA applications tell me that your chances of sucess are limited. Part of the info your boyfriend will be asked for will be bank information, property owned...etc. It is unlikely without an established job, money in the bank, property ownership,...etc that he will get a VISA, but go for it.

He does have a job, as well as a vehicle and some money in the bank. What I meant was that before I left the Dominican on Tuesday, I gave him some money to help pay for the expenses, I was more concerned if I had given him enough. But thank you for the information!

Sophie,
my (now) husband tried for a visitors visa to Canada last year.
You will need to have your letter of invitation notarized (I believe it cost me $60.00).

My letter stated that I would help pay for his ticket, provide accomodations, travel arrangements and food for the 2 weeks he wanted to travel here.
He took in his application paid the fee and was told to come back in 2 weeks time.
When he went back he was given a form letter with some reasons checked off for the denial.
1) He did not prove that he had enough funds for his trip
2) they did not believe his intended purpose of the trip
3) he did not satisfy the officer that he would leave the country when he stated he would.

When bob mentioned having money in the bank - it's several thousands of dollars and even then it's no guarantee. I won't tell you to not do it - but keep in mind that it will be a very slim chance that he will receive it. I had not searched this site prior to his applying - and we were both very disappointed when it was denied.

Best of luck

yeah I know its discouraging, but let me tell you that my father is going through the same process and it is true, your invitee gets asked all those questions about jobs, banking account with 6 months of high activity on it signed by the bank manager, proof of ownership of houses, things like that....

Is it better for us to mention that we are in a relationship or should we simply say that we are friends and he is coming for a visit? I'm assuming that if we say that we are dating it will seem as even less reason for him to come back???

caredbl44: Has your father managed to get his invitee to receive a VISA or was he denied as well?
