Default UK Visa Process

My partner and I are busy preparing for his move to England after our wedding. I wondered if anyone who has been through the visa process for the UK could advise on the length of time it took to be completed. Any pitfalls advice etc would be greatly appreciated (genuine advice please). Please PM me if you would prefer. It would be nice to hear some happy endings too.

Through personal contacts we've had a couple of possible job possibilities but we need to let them know about possible timescales.

The last time we had a thread about sponsoring a spouse to the UK was about a year ago and it did not take long at all so I'm not sure if anything has changed since then.

You can read about it here Success! Thanks to all for info. 15 days no interview Visa granted-British embassy!!!

Thanks. We've read the threads and feel a lot more reassured now. I will post a thread throughout our application process to give more info on the current UK's process, for everyone.

Default UK Settlement Visa Timeline

I would like to share the timeline for my husbands settlement visa to the UK. The process was very quick and everyone at the embassy was very helpful. Can't stop smiling!!

Completed online visa application 18th Feb 2009

Appointment at British Embassy Santo Domingo (appointments were available the next day) 23rd Feb 2009

E-mail from New York stating documents received 24th Feb 2009

E-mail from New York stating visa had been issued 26th Feb 2009

Passport and Documents received by courier at husbands place of work 3rd Mar 2009.

So 13 days in total. What I really couldn't believe was the quick turnaround once the papers were in New York, only 3 days.

So after a fantastic wedding at the beginning of February we're now overjoyed for the future.

I think it must have changed now. He is allowed to work when he arrives. I've been in touch with some local places about work for him and he's following them up now. So hopefully something will work out.

He has to register with the revenue when he arrives so that he will receive an NI number and be allowed to work. That takes around a week.

I'll drop a thread on a different forum about where everyone is located in the UK. Curious to see if anyone is nearby.
