Search the Threads is the first thing but if your friend doesn't own property, have a permanent job or have a well managed bank account of some standing he doesn't stand a chance.

A few years ago I tried to sponser one of my wifes friends for a visit to the UK and even though she had a decently managed bank account and a permamnent job, she was refused a visa because she did not own her property. She was deemed unlikely to want to return.

Good luck, you will nedd it.

It would help if you tell us where "here" is. It's a big world out there.

Thanks Gregg

If it's a visitor visa to the UK you need to know first of all that he can not work while on a " visitor visa" and to get one is nearly impossible.

Matilda can give you more info on that.

Here's some info to get you started Do I need a visa?

1. As Anna says he cannot work on a visitors visa and would not get a permanent visa.

2. A visitors visa is normally given for 6 months - multiple entry with maximum length of stay 3 months.

3. he needs to prove he will return here. Therefore he needs a good reason to return: money in the bank (with evidence that it has gone in over a period of time); a good job with a letter from his employer saying he will return and proof of earnings; own a house or business with proof of such; a valid passport ec.

let me know if you need more information.

Because historically Dominicans have a higher than acceptable rate of not returning to the DR when the Visa expires.

This is a judgment which is made by the UK government based on it's priorities.

Then it would be a different Visa type (Spousal Visa) which was being applied for. I am sure you will get specific info on that possibility from someone here.
