Default Did everyone hear the noise?

I've been surprised that nobody has mentioned the noise when the earthquake shook us all up about 1am. When I woke up, not only was my bed bouncing and shaking but it sounded like there was a train in the basement. Very loud. Didn't last long and was not repeated with subsequent tremors or after shocks.

A friend in Perla Marina was lying awake reading when the earthquake occurred. She said she could hear the noise approaching and immediately worried that it might be a tornado coming.

To me, the combination of the noise and the violent motion made it even more frightening than if it were just the motion.

Hallo, I'm writing from England. The grand daughter of a friend is over here from Puerto Plata and is worried about how things are.
So I'm relaying messages to her via someone else...

Does anyone know how things are in Los Reis [Race?] A road in Puerto Plata. Or can you give me any good links for more information?

I just looked at the P. P. photo link, it looks awful over there, and I'm so sorry for you all. Best wishes

Mary, like Scott says the report is that your damage was mainly to stuff falling and breaking. None of the units appear to have any structural damage; no windows or sliding doors broken; etc.
A number of the water heaters on the roof were overturned, I'm told, but that is being taken care of.

What surprised me this morning was walking by Scott's apartment and seeing a very tall vase on a table on the porch. It doesn't seemed to have moved an inch.

On the subject of breakage, if anything like this should ever happen again it would be good to keep in mind that there might be broken glass on the floor if you try to dash from your bed to the outdoors. Certainly that was the case in our apartment.

Default Lots of Damage

There is lots of visible damage in Sosua. Streets closed etc. Photos are attached. Moderator feel free to move these or delete them to save Rob some server space if you need to, or after I can get copies to Hollywood for the media gallery. Thought folks would be interested in seeing some of these right away though.

Default Tradewinds Sosua

Isabel (no, not the hurricane but my Isabel) says no damage to our first floor unit over at Tradewinds however, she reports alot of damage 60 yards away on the first floor area near the office.
Scared the hell out of her.

This is the same building as above, next to the Texaco station in Sosua. The first floor columns are canted about 1 foot insomeplaces as well. It's a three story structure. Or was.

Default Where da Man??

Where's his baldness anyway? Is he still across the ocean begging for money/aid? Does he intend to come back to deal with this or is he like Mayor Bilandic in the great Chicago snow storm. If he's not back he has no excuse for not returning pronto.
