Default for the dead......

Oh no!! Not the presidente! Atleast all the dead that get a drop of liquor when you open a new bottle of booze will be happy!

Default Sosua Earthquake Photos

Typical mainfloor support column in building next to Texaco. Many of the look like this. Not much left, and it's holding up two more floors. Others are slanted a foot or more between ground and 8 feet up. Civil defense has the area roped off and is guarding the building.

I have more if you want them but I'll stop now lest anyone get annoyed!

With the exception of the gym/pharmacy/hardwarestore building the photos of Puerto Plata look much worse than anything around here in Sosua that I have seen so far. But some of these buildings did take some serious structural cracking, including Europa which looked like the back end tried to split off from the front. It's cracked top to bottom through all three levels.

I was at the Coastal earlier and noted one jet landing. So they must be in operation. But still the traffic seems very light to me. Other than that I haven't seen anything other than a couple of military helicopters floating over head all morning.

Kudos to Ede Norte. They had some out of town emergency crew picking up and connecting cables on El Choco. I stopped and told them about ours that were laying in the street and by the time I got back it was fixed. Actually had about 5 minutes of power from them, too so we know it should work when they get back on line.

Unhappy Photos..

Hey Tom, Have Camera will travel!
Interesting to see the actual damage was not too bad for many. I am trying to contact my Brother in law..We call him every Monday afternoon. No answer at his store so wonder if his area was affected. In the Monte Plata region town of Yamasa'. Can not find any info on if that area was damaged. Anyone know let me know please. They always answer the phone as it is in his pawn shop so thought maybe something happened. Pam

No. I don't know what building that is, but it most certainly is not El Neptuno where MaryS, Scott and I have condos.

We were lucky in Cabarete!! Commisserations to all others affected in Sosua and POP - if you need anything just call 571-0748
Cabarete power all back on - well done Edenorte!
Shops all open - Sosua still cleaning up - Coastal Supermarket has been open but watch for the slippery olive oil on the floor!
Not feeling any of these other aftershocks in Cabarete?
Agree with Ken about the noise - fast asleep at 1.00am, wake up thinking I'm back on the Western Front, reconsider, and then think which idiot is driving a steamroller up our drive????!!! Stand up, fall over until the floor stops moving - as if the whole house moved a foot in either direction, but as a whole unit!! We were not liking that!!!
Phew, no damage!
A friend flew into POP early this morning from Canada so there were planes landing at POP.

Exclamation The supermarket in the Coastal gas Station is open!!

Thank God!!! Playero, Productos Sosua and Super Super are all closed but the supermarket in the coastal station is open normal hours. They were cleaning up some stuff when I was there, but other than that, no change.
