I live on a 6th floor of an apartment building in S.D. and was awaken by my fiancee putting the death grip around me.

Had no idea what was happening until a few seconds later I hear the concrete walls and ceiling creaking and making wierd noises.

I'm from Florida so these quakes are definitely a wake up call.

The last earthquake (4.? on the RS) was a lot scarier for me since I was actually awake for the whole thing. Just thanking my lucky stars that this building is in S.D. and not on the north coast... not sure it wouldve came out unscathed.

Anyone all of a sudden scared to death of the concrete ceilings??? I miss trusses... LOL

From watching CDN last night, they had people calling in from across the country.

Nobody was hurt aside from the two people that went to hospital due to being freaked out. CDN reported no injuries due to the earthquake itself from anywhere in the country.

Naturally the power went out when the earthquake happened, although only for 30 minutes. But Codetel again performed extremely well - my cellphone remained working throughout the night, as did my local phone and internet connection.

So don't worry if you have family or friends here. They will be a little shaken today, but they're fine.

In my apartment one bookshelf fell down, apart from that everything looks fine.

Scott - if the damage in Sosua was the same as Santiago, your glass chandeliers should be fine.

Default Shake Rattle & Roll

Just had another little one here in Villa Gonzalez, that makes four. We were sound asleep when the big one hit last night. We were literally bouncing on the bed. I woke up, the dog was going crazy, doors slamming, pots & pans falling out of the cabinets, and Danny finally said "earthquake". Then the lights go out.

We jump out of bed, grab some clothes and ran outside just short of starkers. After my heart and the dog calmed down, we started to go back inside when the goddamn door slammed and locked.

Sooo, we've been up all night. finally got back in the house, but still couldn't get in the bedroom (that door slammed also). Drank coffee, watched umpteen movies and waited for the maid to get here to let us in. I am not a happy camper, also very sleepy.

Who knew that the DR has quakes? Not me. This was not in the travel brochure.....Hope everyone is okay other than frayed nerves!
