Chiri, you ain't kidding! It's now 11.30pm and it has been raining all day, the last few hours it's been raining real hard. Just walked in the front door and Sarasota was like a river, jeep only zone! If it keeps up all night, many parts of the city are going to have serious flooding.

We're now in the middle of a massive storm - high winds, thunder, lightning, and constant rainfall - I can't see myself getting much more sleep and school will probably be out tomorrow. Power went about three hours ago.

Seven hours later and it's still raging. Power still off, even in the neighbouring circuit that usually never gets power cuts because certain VIPs live there. Once it's light we'll be able to see what the damage looks like. I hate to think what it's like for people in poor housing or flood-prone areas because it has rained heavily for so long now.

Not really back to normal here yet. Wind is still shrieking although the rain has stopped. There's lots of debris around where we live but no actual trees down. Large puddles everywhere, some water inside the house, very damp and cool generally. Electricity still out but inverter is still going strong, mainly because we didn't need to use the fans last night anyway. Phone working - I was up early because of the wake-up call, but we decided that there would be no school today. Internet connection too
I haven't been out yet but I would guess that the Sarasota and Nuñez intersection is a lake.

It's 8am and light rain is falling in Julieta of Santo Domingo. City seems to be all covered. Very little traffic. The Ministry of Education called school off today. Still feeling wind gusts.

Seems the problem has been the slow speed this phenomenon has been moving at -- 6 mph is really slow.

At 8:20am it is now pouring rain. From what I have been reading, this storm which went from rain to a 60mph tropical storm yesterday, is bad news for Haiti, with mass floodings expected, which is bad news for the DR. The lights just went out in my building.

It rained throughout the night and early morning. Now with daybreak shortly before 7am we have cloudy skies, a light wind and it's around 26.5C (80F), which is chilly for us. While the skies are still laden with gray clouds, for a difference the clouds can be differentiated, it is not just one gray cloud as yesterday. So maybe today we will see some clearing up.

At noontime, it is again raining in Santo Domingo. All covered skies. Still hoping it will clear up for tomorrow.
