Confused
Okay, Now I am confused
I am going to Riu Palace on October 2nd. First I heard that by that time everything will be business as usual flights, hotel and all. Now I am hearing that some flights are cancelled, others are not, some hotles will be back to 100% operation although I have not heard anything about the Riu being back up to par at that point (They suffered flooding around the resort but no damage to the hotel) so I guess my question would be, well how do you get to the hotel then?
If it wasnt for this website I would be completly in the dark. I thank you all for posting updates, it has been informative. God know my travel agent has been of no help!
If anyone knows anything else about this resort I would appreciate your insight.
Thanks
DIana

RIU Resorts
Received the following email from the management of the RIU TAINO....
We will be traveling there the 15th of October. (We were scheduled to leave this Friday, however Apple Vacations cancelled all flights till the first of Oct.)
"Everything is working fine in here, we only had some trees fallen and some of the umbrellas around the pool and beach gone with the wind, the lobby bar was close before the storm due to some Leaking on the roof ,b but evething else is working as always.
Everything is clean and nice as it used to be before the storm.
Some properties close by were closed as they suffered more damages than what we did.
Have a good trip and see you down here !!!!"

riu resorts
hey
So I finally received a reply from my travel agent in regards to flying out to the riu resorts on October 2nd. She said that she has not received any cancellation notices from Sunquest vacations for departures from Toronto and that everything is a go as it stands now. Anyoen else flying out from Toronto?
She also told me to call back a few days prior to departure.
I am crossing my fingers!

news from travel agent re: Riu
I just got off the phone with the travel agent and they suggest that we do not travel until after the 19th of October, but the change is not mandatory. They simply said that it would not be up to par, but would still be acceptable. They said that if the roads were impassable, they would make the change mandatory. They said flights are still on and hotels are still open. I am going to take my chances and hopefully it will be a wonderful stay in the DR.

I am leaving from Florida. I booked online through Yahoo Travel and they are the ones giving me the information. I am still going unless it is cancelled. I figure they are being overly protective. Who knows we may even get better service if there are less guests there.

Bobbie....We know that things may not be optimal....but the way we see it...give us a lounge chair (some sun) and a cold beer...and We'll be happy...What is the saying??? " Even a bad day on vacation is better than a good day at work." I know that isn't the case when it is during a huricane...but you know what I mean.....I plan on packing little for us and lots for others....Good luck to all
