Thumbs up A BIG thank you to PJT

[I have been following the drama of Hurricane Jeanne with great interest as my flatmate and I are one of the lucky people who in a moment of "wow wouldn't Dom Rep be fun?" booked to visit Punta Cana. I appreciate that this trip will be nothing if not eventful. But what I have enjoyed the most, to date, has been the running commentary from PJT our honest and friendly weather person.

PJT I have no idea who you are but your direct approach to on the ground news has been fantastic!!

Thank you and keep on tapping as I for one shall be reading your comments wherever we end up on Monday.

Fiona

Question Bavaro Princess?

Thanks for all the useful info in this thread. Does anyone have a status on Bavaro Princess and how it managed through the storm?

Thanks!

Default Bavaro Punta Cana Weather and Updates

I'm lucky in good spirits in spite of losing my pc to the bad weather gods.
So I am begging, borrowing, and stealing to at least send a report.

Note: without my technical resourses my report is very simple.

It is overcast today. Temp is in high eighty's F 20 s C. Humidity you can cut with a knife. There was some rain this am.

Punta Cana airport is open. A resort, I believe was Secrets in Ulvero Alto was being evacuated yesterday by helicopter. I knew something was up by the amt of air traffic overhead the house.

Vehicle traffic on roads mostly trucks buses and occasional pick-up truck. Gasoline in short supply.

Regards,
PJT

Unhappy Sirenis Cocotal Uvero Alto

Anyone got info on whats happening to guests at the hotel? We have had no further contact from mum, dad and bro. My guess the cellphone battery is dead.

Wink Hello everybody....

My husband and I were booked to leave from Mirabel (Montreal) today at 12.15pm going to Punta Cana for 2 weeks at the Barcelo Bavaro and our flight was cancelled - the reason: the airport in Punta Cana is damaged....

We are booked to go next week, hope it works out...

Air Transat chose not to fly into Punta Cana today, I recommend any travellers check with your carrier before travelling far to catch your plane.

Default RIU Resort

Hello,

does anybody know, what happened with the RIU Resort/Punta Cana?
Is there a lot of damage too, like in the other resorts?
Today we´ve read a lot about this area in German newspapers and what "Jeanne" caused :-(. It´s really sad...

Would be great to get an answer.

Best wishes from Germany

Petra & Juergen

Default Rui's/Punta Cana

From everything told to me, the Riu's fared quite well. I was to fly out to the Riu Taino tomorrow morning, but the trip was cancelled as it is very difficult to get around; however, the Riu's weren't on the "damaged resort" list. I have my trip re-booked for October 1. Good Luck.
