Default Barcelo Bavaro Caribe

Has anyone else noticed the "The Caribe" has been added to the closed list as of Wednesday...They have been listing it as 95% functional until then..I'm booked there on November 6 and now saying closed until December 15..My Travel agent says everyone is getting switched to "The Beach" or upgraded to "The Palace"..Been to The Caribe 2 years ago and Sunscape last year and we decided to go back to The Caribe this year and now wishing we were going back to Sunscape..At least I would know what we are walking into..Don't know anything about which restaurants are opened or closed..Anyone know why all of a sudden the "Caribe" got shut down??..Any info would be great....Ken

Default Barcelo Bavaro Resorts

I received the following information just yesterday from the resort.

Bavaro Palace: Facilities at our Palace Hotel is now functioning at a 100%.
Our Palace special for all guests will function as follows:

1- Premium drinks for all guests as part of the "all inclusive" plan.
2- Chez Palace Restaurant will be open for guests free of charge (reservations required through Palace guest services)
3- Grill "La Pina" will now be open for lunch and dinner.
4- Our "Steakhouse" will take the place of the Cuban restaurant.
5-The "Mexico Lindo" buffett will now be offered within the Palace buffett.

Unless we experience a "change in demand" of rooms towards our product the opening date for the closed properties will be December 15th, 2004.

Services & Facilities within the resort:
-Golf course: Will remain out of service until new advise.
-Minigolf: Out of service until further notice.
-Fitness Room: Now open with regular service.
-Bavaro Discotheque: Now open with regular service.
-Las Canas Discotheque: Will remain closed until further notice.
-La Uva Grill-Rest.: Closed until further notice.
-Tennis courts: Available to all guests.
-Casino Room: Now open with regular service.
-Tropocalissimo Show: Remains open with regular schedule (Mon-Sat)
-Internal Transportation: Shuttle train service is now available for all guest.

No reason listed for the closing, but my guess would be that it's an occupancy
issue nothing else.

Default Only the Palace is open but due to demand

I spoke with my gf today that works at Barcelo. She says only the palace is open for rooms, but mainly due to the fall in demand. They have added some features to the Palace. This is a great spot to go for the right price...entertainment is still going as is many of the other features.

Default Barcelo

Just wanted to let everyone know that as of now I have been upgraded fron The Caribe to The Palace..Things may change again IF people start booking the hotel again and the rooms fill up..(I got this from my charter company-GWV Travel here in the northeast)..We will have all benefits of the Palace either way..GWV offered to switch me to Sunscape at a $100.00 per person increase but I figured I'd go with the flow and stay with Barcelo..I know I like the beach there alot more..I will let everyone know how I make out in November..Thanks for the answers...Ken
