Looks like we've moved to a more serious note now. If you read the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change ... new report .. Summary for policy makers and also the history to bringing this information together, you will find for once that the scientists are chillingly serious now on this issue. If you've followed this working group's work, you will know of the many times that Governments interfered directly and changed the language of the scientists' findings. My feeling is that we're in deep doo doo. Here is the report. http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM13apr07.pdf

I have the draft versions before language changes were forced on this report by the US and China.

Then, if you read Up in Smoke, Latin America and the Caribbean (which was part of the 3rd report of this same working group), you'll probably never make light of climate change again. Even the words 'climate change' are a watering down of the concept. Climate Change is a result of Global Warming. But, Global Warming is too scary for the wider populace to think about, so, it became Climate Change ... one of those governmental 'changes of language'. http://www.neweconomics.org/gen/uplo...2006213002.pdf

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but about 2 years ago the scientists involved in these studies, started rebelling. They felt that their work had consistently been 'watered down' by their governments. It is since then, this rebellion, that we are seeing news flow through to the normal commercial news channels.

These scientists believe that we are already 20 years or so into this global warming cycle .. and that a large proportion of it can directly be traced to human activity.

Klotzbach and Gray, the weather scientists that we pay attention to here in the weather forum have stated that they could not find evidence that the record hurricane seasons are connected to global warming. But Dr Gray is going to devote the rest of his career to studying climate change. If you're used to reading academic language from people dependant on grants, it would be clear that they've not 'looked' for evidence, but that they are now going to.

One other point, if you're so inclined (and this is not really available with a quick Google), go find out who owns most of the water resources in the world .. have a look at South America and at Africa. It was in 1989 (I think my date is correct but I'm typing from memory) .. Boutros Boutros Ghali(sp) said that the next world war will not be about oil or nuclear power, but it will be about water.

I don't even want to contemplate the current buying of fodder for fuel. If you look carefully at what is happening, our food supply is being burnt up so that our planes, trains and automobiles can keep on truckin'.

I am fortunate to be visiting two communities very much into whole living, organic farming, whole food, natural healing and so on. Speaking to a community farmer a few days ago, she said that 20 years ago, when she was in University, the issues of Global Warming were openly discussed in amongst the scientists. But, it was commonly accepted that the Universities and their Governments would suppress any formal study, so, scientists dependent on grants for their studies, could not get the grants, so did not do the studies. Governmental scientists did, and their findings were supressed up to the point that they came out in open rebellion. Last year at the start of the hurricane season, I wrote something on fact that scientific material tying the actions of mankind directly to climate change, were then just becoming main stream.

We should curve our consumption of fossil fuels and lower our pollution levels for the sake of our own health, but not for this global warming crap.

So, the polar ice-cap melting doesn't concern you? You think we're into a global warming due to a "natural" cyclical phenomena? i e, an "ice age" or a "temperate Age"? That we, humans, have absolutely nothing to do with our planet's weird weather and resulting crop failures? Not to mention, the mass die-offs of many species of frogs and other reptiles?
Whether we realize it or not, the more we overpopulate our planet, the more impact we'll have on it's climate, flora and fauna; with horrific irreversible consequences...... Heaven help us!
Amén!

another reason....? the crazy out of control over consumption that we feel the need for....

"China claimed yesterday to have caused a snowfall for the first time as part of its increasingly ambitious attempts to control the weather.

Officials in the meteorological bureau in Tibet said they had used "rain-seeding" techniques to trigger a snowfall over the city of Nagqu last week.

"This proves it's possible for humans to change the weather on the world's highest plateau," said Yu Zhongshui. The bureau said it had produced just under half an inch of snow at a height of 15,000ft.

Mr Yu said the experiment was conducted in the hope it would lead to alleviating drought on the northern Tibetan plateau, whose grasslands are turning brown as global warming melts and drains its permafrost."

Cool Funny but impossible

Dude,

The cool polar bears are from the North Pole and the poor penguins are from the South Pole. But maybe global warming will cause the twain to meet some day.

Many of the world's economic superpowers -China, India, and the United States--combined, are responsible for more than half the world's energy consumption with the resulting percentage of noxious pollutants emitted onto our atmosphere.
Each one of these nations has drawn up a course of action focusing on industrial output and world marketing-shares with little regards to consequences as to how their industrial C02 emissions contribute to the world's climate disparate.
It seems that the putsch to grow the GNP of any particular nation, supersedes any concern for the environment as a whole.
This trend will continue until reality sets in and we can no longer ignore the obvious.
Will our children survive?
