Have a look out tomorrow and you'll see what you're looking at The 20th should be fine.

Yes, we have a major hurricane, Category 3. This storm is showing all the signs of developing into a destructive Category 4 by the time it gets to the Virgin Islands and thereafter Puerto Rico.

A tropical storm warming remains in effect along the South Coast of the Dominican Republic from Cabo Engano to the Haiti-Dominican Republic Border.

A Hurricane watch remains in effect from Cabo Beato to the Haiti/Dominican Republic Border.

(Obviously the Haitian Border as well!)

Model confidence is now going down the tubes. I better go and sleep 'cause there is no sleep tonight!

Track is not changing but the windfields and storm surge numbers are changing for us. I'll post them up in a while.

My son and his friends are holidaying in Sosua - how safe will it be there for the next day or two with the hurricane?

Way more risk of them getting drunk and stumbling on a curb. DOn't worry, I live and work in Puerto Plata - 20 minutes away - little or no risk at this point.

100% safe, at least, with regards to hurricanes.
