LOL, I learnt about hurricanes in order to overcome a deep fear (and I wanted to sail without fainting when seeing a cloud!) Personally I don't trust these storms! I trust the set of forecasters that I've been working with over the years and the set of information that I've gathered in order to understand as much as we can as humans. I'll be glad when the storm is past us. The 'funny african' part of me thinks each storm has its own personality, so, I'll not be surprised if it decides to do funny things!

At the moment it looks as if we're 'home free', excepting for some rain and bigger waves and a bit of surge. This storm is small and compact, nevertheless dangerous and will cause a small swathe of destruction, wherever it goes. My heart is with Martinique tonight. The eye is on its way to hit the southern tip of Martinique at around 4am tomorrow morning.

Good night!

And what a fantastic job you are all doing - my first hurricane experience anywhere and at least I now feel reassured by your forecasts (with a little help from your friends you mentioned!). Hope all is well in Martinique tonight too.

You won't get a hurricane experience this time either, whirleybird. . It's way too far away from north coast to 'experience' it (approx 250 miles away). When Jeanne came through I stayed up for hours relaying info via computer but the darn thing stalled out (near Nagua I think) so I went to bed at 3am...............and slept through it when it eventually arrived . Fortunately by then it was only a TS & not a hurricane.

Just seen the 'Bermuda high' - high pressure area which looks like it is keeping this storm behaving as predicted...............so maybe we thank the triangle for the gentlemanly behaviour?

many years ago i was in the Outer Banks of North Carolina when a hurricane hit. we moved inland and witnessed something that was a once in a lifetime experience.
i may joke a lot on this forum (i'm sure there are some of you that may even hate me).

that being said all of you are in my prayers that live down there in the DR. hopefully everyone will be sipping on a presidente on sunday talking about what could have been..
