The men of the house went to the supermarket late this afternoon, if only to combat cabin fever, and said it was full. Our power just came back on, and we're hoping it lasts for more than a few minutes this time. Also hope that we won't be confined to barracks with a bored 7-year old all day tomorrow. Anyway, this is nothing compared to what the real victims are enduring.

Hello. I'm back!!! Power has just come back in Juan Dolio - a great relief for those of us without generator who have been off for nearly 24 hrs. Its calmed down a lot. No rain and just a bit of wind now. No real damage. Melted icecreams in colmado, rain came through kitchen roof, pool full and also full of bits of trees, but thats about it. Happy days!!!!! Lots of Haitians spent the day rebuilding houses and lots of businesses closed but could have been much worse. Nice to sleep in English pyjamas though!

Wow...Hope everyone down there is doing alright!!! And that none of our DR1ers have experienced too much damage to anything.

Any more recent reports on dead/injured??

Mother Nature can be some scary stuff at times!

I agree with Desmarco. This site is the BEST for getting current info out there fast. Thanks for all the updates & photos - and especially to Rubio Higuey for the news about Higuey (re; power, rain, etc...). It's been difficult to get through on the phone.

Here's one more link to news that's slowly getting posted on the web (yes, it refers to Cabaret, a town north of Port-au-Prince, not Cabarete - someone misquoted). This article is about 10 or 11 hours old.

Tropical Storm Noel Rains Lash Haiti

It didn't appear that there was much warning that this storm would escalate as quickly as it did/ One of my friends was fishing in the boca de Nisibon (I think? Don't have my DR map with me today) late Friday and Saturday, and described water that was stronger than the ocean. I haven't been able to reach him since.

I pray that the worst is over, that everyone is safe, and that clean-up goes quickly. . . I know, it's the DR . . . as quickly as clean up can go there. Again, thanks to all of you for the updates!

We're suppose to be leaving Thursday morning for Punta Cana. Does anyone out there know the conditions of that area?

Glad to hear that you are ok and that the damage isnt so bad! I read that the hardest hit was the south coast..so that would mean you.

to the poster asking about Punta Cana...i would think you will be ok by thursday no? I am sure that the big resorts handle these things better than smaller towns.

I just keep thinking of my friends house in andreas. Havent heard too much about that area. I will try to call him tomorrow. He's got that small house of cinderblocks....i keep on thinking of "i'll huff and i'll puff and i'll blow your house down!" but since his house is made of bricks i feel better. Just worrying about that tin roof.

I checked theweathernetwork.com a couple days ago before booking my trip for Nov 4 to punta cana/bavaro today. It said light rain and forecasting every day in the 30's and now that the trip is booked I looked for a more detailed forecast and I come across this site and I cannot believe what I am reading. Is it likely that the rain will continue to move north west like the reports say and I will be okay for the trip? What are the chances the beach resort I am going to (Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana) will have major damage to the beach? Will they have power back on? Will the road be open to get there?

I am frantically looking for some reassurace I will not have spent $3k to fly down and sit in a hotel room in the dark!

Thank you,
