Thanks for that - hopefully there's someone on here that is in the area today and knows how things are there. We will try to call again tonight but I'm guessing if its bad we won't find it that easy to get through. It's 4:25pm here now (clocks changed yesterday - which means we're only 4 hours ahead now instead of 5) so we'll both be home from work in about an hour and a half - 6pm (2pm there) - will try giving them a call then.

Do you think there will be school tomorrow? How do you find out when the ministry of education calls off school? I didn't know and I went all the way there today!

People with beach front property are watching their sand disappear.

I suspect that those in well off areas of the capital will be fine if they stay put, but if people need to be outside, it is pretty brutal. A neighbor had a wicker chair fly into a window and break it. Just my 2 cents.
Hi, where are you - are you close to SD?

I was IN SD yesterday (all over--shopping). I commented on the exceptional strenght of a supposed TD and when we got home we realized it had been upgraded to a TS.

We live in Juan Dolio which is about 45 min from the center of the Capital. If you are going from the airport, we are about equidistant from it (compared to the cap) in the other direction, towards La Romana and Bavaro. If it helps, we are in between the city of San Pedro and Boca Chica.

I have a colleague that lives in Herrera. I can call her if you want. I have a hard time understanding Spanish over the phone, but I will give it a try.

If I don't come back, it's the power again.

There are some worrying reports about landslides in poor barrios in SD with casualties, unfortunately. Also apparently TV reported some serious flooding in the rural SW but the online newspapers I've looked at are not mentioning this.

Okay, things are fine there. Well, as good as it can be considering there is a TS. She has a lot of flooding in her neighborhood and therefore in her house. She hasn't had power since yesterday late afternoon. The inversor ran out of battery long ago. There are trees down. Pretty typical. I don't live too far from there so it's pretty much the same as it is here. Nothing threatening. My boyfriend also works close to Herrera and he reports that things are the same as they are here. It's probably best to call your family anyway.......but I am sure things are fine.

I am going to head out in a few minutes. I am going to watch the sea from the clubhouse of my building before planning more lessons for my students and watching novellas. I hope the generator stays on! I hate to think what that bill is going to be like!

I probably should mention that this colleague does not live in a poor area.......I am not sure where your family is, but that makes a difference. I mean it's not the best where she lives, but it's not considered poor. It is a barrio, but just not bajo mundo.
