Does anyone have any news about Paraiso? We have a team of church members who regularly travel to Paraiso to work at the IED church there. We haven't been able to make communication.

I am assuming Batey 6 around Barahona? There is a doctor in the states now from Batey 7 and from what I hear that area was hit pretty hard. The homes are still very flooded. They were not able to get in for quite some time. And there is a need for medical supplies and teams. The food (what little there was) is gone. And the animals were killed. I am assuming that the beans and rice program is not able to run. and the "clean"water sources are now contaminated. I will be spending more time with the dr. this week. Let you know more then.

I am planning to go to Barahona on Saturday with a bus load of food and clothes we have collected from several fund-raising events we have made (at my job) and would like to deliver it ourselves as we did before in El Tamarindo, in Santo Domingo. I would like to go to where is most needed. Anyone has an idea?
Please see this video I posted on youtube from our visit to the Tamarindo shelter where we came to bring food and clothes; there are pictures of the area from where they were evacuated and where they lost every little thing they had. The lady in the picture holding an infant is me, the other people are my "helpers".

I haven't looked at your vid clip yet (I will later), but I wanted to tell you that I love the way you do things.
Apart from the fact that you have my admiration and respect for helping, your plan of going there yourself and giving it to those who are truly in need, as opposed to just handing it over to someone else to take care of, is superb.
That's the way to get things done.
Kudos to you, Marilyn.

Marilyn, speak to people at Plan International and/or Peace Corps - they work in the area. I'm going to PM you with names and contact numbers of people who can give you information - but just from what I've heard - a couple of places that were very seriously affected are Batey 6, Peñon and Cristóbal.
Also - be careful at the Jaquimeyes (sp?) crossing - there have been some attacks on vehicles, especially ones taking supplies. There is more army presence in the area now as a result, but take care.

Thanks for the warning, we'll be very careful. There will be about 10 of us, but most are women. I'll ask the chief of the navy in Barahona who's my friend to see if he can send me some protection.

Thanks Rocky, my motives might be a little selfish since I derive great personal satisfaction in making sure the donations don't end up in some storage facility to be sold later for personal gain.
