The center of Olga has been running along the Northern Coast of Puerto Rico and is now over the Mona Passage. The center of the storm is not really the issue for us however as the heavy rains and strong winds are well removed from the center.
Most everyone over the South Eastern part of the country should be seeing some effects from Olga now. It seems as if interaction with land and other factors overnight slightly weakened the storm.
The track is still straight across the DR, starting from the East and riding up just inside the South Coast. This passage over land should weaken the storm as well, but again, our problem is rain, floods, flash floods, mudslides and storm surge, and not so much high winds.
Let us know what it looks like in your area.

Juan Dolio is sunny with very pleasant breezes, but they seem to be picking up some.

Please have a look at this satellite picture. The rain in the storm is mostly toward the North of the center of the storm .. So, in terms of rain coming down, the North Coast should not relax and neither should the South Coast. Although the center of the storm is already over the Mona Passage, the rain will still follow.

In Costambar.......
.........we had a HEAVY rain and wind band cross us about 15 minutes ago and a tree from across the street "snapped"...... It made a load snapping noise and you could see that it was not "rotten" where it broke off....

My maid is taking advantage of the strong breeze to
hang laundry as I type this from Juan Dolio.
The sun is shining with light cloud however we did have a bit a drizzle overnight.
The humidity is incredible and I'm soaked with sweat just sitting here at my desk. If I wasn't packing to leave I'd set up a webcam so you could see what it is like.......
As long as it's passed by early Thurs. AM so our flight doesn't get cancelled I'll be a happy camper! Hhhmmmmm maybe I should rethink that.....we might end up flying through it to get to Miami then Tampa!!

The rain has been on and off here on the beachfront in Cabarete, its the winds that are building up that will cause problems, I already have water forced in through the window joints so we are now taking precautions and putting up what we can on the 2 windows on the beach side, I remember Jeanne 4 years ago. I am concerned about these high waves they are warning about

10-15 Ft Battering Waves
We have high waves here in Matancita. Police and Red cross is evacuating the people living on the beach. Press is here too. Let's hope it does not get too bad.

Yes, the North and East Coast beaches is not a good place today.
Again the biggest threat to the Dominican Republic is rainfall. As I thought yesterday, the officially published expected rainfall amounts have been increased to 4 to 6 inches and isolated amounts of 10 inches. This is a lot of rain.
Puerto Rico is already reporting mudslides and flooding in areas and the storm is not fully past the island yet. People from there are reporting spectacularly big and pounding waves on their North Coast.
The winds are a little 'off center' to say the least and strong winds are far away from the center of Olga, which should pass the South Coast today. Noaa reports that a buoy about 270 miles from the center reported a sustained wind of 40 miles per hour and gusts to 54 miles per hour. Winds like this drive the rain.
Be aware of flooding, flash floods, storm surge and just too much water for the earth to deal with. People in low lying areas on the North Coast, on the East Coast, and in sub-standard housing should probably go and visit family for a day, until it is clear how much rain is going to come down.
Olga is still moving at around 15 miles per hour toward the West
