Default Report from Cabo Samana

A few moments ago, I was 2 km south of Cabo Samana on the coast and observed winds approx. at 30-35 mph constant from the NNE and gusting to 40 mph. Waves of 10-15 ft. Lots of salt spray. I expect it to get a bit stronger by nightfall. Not too much rain...come in bands raining hard for only a couple of minutes. Writing from my laptop connected with Claro 3G Wireless.

A report from near the beach in Punta Cana says that the rains that have fallen are nothing out of the ordinary for Punta Cana. Here in Santo Domingo a light rain is falling. Expected to intensify. At one point the rain poured in from the north, which is out of the ordinary.

OK, the center of Olga has made landfall near Punta Cana and is now about 85 miles east of Santo Domingo. There is a slowdown and the storm is now moving around 10 miles per hour. We should see this storm over much of Hispaniola for the next 24 hours.

I'm looking out at the tranquil sea and wondering where is this supposed storm!!! a bit overcast here, not much wind to speak of....amazing how different the weather can be such a short distance away, from punta cana for example.

take care storm-goers!!

Half an hour ago report was there was just an on and off drizzle in Punta Cana. Don't know if the rains have yet come. In Santo Domingo, it has been dry for quite a while. Weird, we are all waiting for the announced rains.

I just finished my job in Port au Prince, but i am afraid that a flight back to the DR tomorrow is not an option
Heavy clouds here, mountains around us are almost invisible, it rains slowly like a thick fog

Subtropical Storm Olga

Subtropical Storm Olga was passing south of Santo Domingo around noon today, on its way westwards to Jamaica.
..... is this just the Dominican way or am I totally upside down?

Looking at Weather.Com and the Caribbean Satellite, the storm is passing NORTH of the Dominican Republic according to the satellite view. And I looked at it earlier today around noon because when I got home my wife Claribel told me to expect problems from the storm.

I know I am getting old, but please tell me I am correct.
