For all of those confused with the storm and its direction. Well, first, its big! The center is close by Santo Domingo and the rain is to the North of that. So the winds and the rains kinda follow the center ... and are not clustered around the center as in a typical hurricane. This is is more or less why it is sub-tropical and not tropical. (Forgive me for sacrificing technical explanations for simplicity and also, the nature of the storm is changing currently to more of a tropical storm)
We will get rain over the whole island. The rains and winds are coming in from the North side mainly. Winds and rains will be in bands - strong one moment, and nothing the next moment. The winds will not be that bad (compared to a hurricane that is.) The rain is going to sift down and again rivers will overflow, low lying areas will flood, some beach areas will be eroded.
Compared to Tropical Storm Noel, that poured down up to 30 inches of rain, Olga is way down on this list, but with 10 inches of rain forecast for an already wet island, things may not look so good by tomorrow morning.
Unlike a hurricane, your roofs will probably not blow off (depending on your roof) and your house will probably not be full of water (depending on your house). People in low lying areas are at risk. Their houses will flood with rivers coming across their banks.
