Default Rough Weather Alert!

Listin Diario posts tonight a warning for the North Coast beaches -to avoid their use for the next 48 hours. The warning cites the possibility of 12 foot waves coming from a low pressure area crossing the Bahamas. The warning includes Monte Christi, Puerto Plata, Samana, Nagua, Rio San Juan and the bay side of Miches.

Thanks for the notification, but bear in mind that Listin Diario is just a rag and the wave forecasting website does not predict those alleged waves.

Geez.
It's only a couple of years old.
This may be better.

There does seem to be a significant wave height going on at the moment - significant wave height is the average height of the highest 1/3 of the waves coming through .. and the marine folks are saying that individual waves may be more than twice the significant wave height.

There are fresh to strong Easterly trades blowing at the moment with this large Northerly Swell spilling through Wednesday through Friday.

It was a very windy night and it's a breezy day here on the south coast.

Same here in Samaná, north side.
Looking down to Las Terrenas we can see a very turbulent surf rolling in.
At night we had the lowest temperature for months (19.5 ºC), up here in the hills.
Short shower at night, dry now, strong winds from N.

I hope they don't "close the beaches" this weekend with Semana Santa upon us...
