Default Octobers Predictions

Hi all,

Just wondering what everyones predictions are for the weather in the DR in October.

I'm coming over for 2 weeks with the Gf from from the UK during the middle of October and after seeing all theses storms and hurricanes queing up, it has me worried.

Dont suppose anyone has any future predictions? (probablly too early too tell??)

P.S Im staying in the playa dorada resort.

Many Thanks

Mac

September is traditionally the month when most hurricanes hit the Caribbean region. In fact, in 100 years, only David has hit outside of September (and that was on 31 August). We have yet to have a hurricane in October or November, but last year there unusually were two tropical storms, one in October and another in December. See DR1 - Hurricanes

No one can forecast weather in October this far in advance, outside of generalizations. Chances are in your favor of good weather.
For an overview on weather in October, see
DR1 - Weather

One of the best sources, if not the best, on weather regarding the Dominican Republic is at Weather & Beyond - DR1 Dominican Republic Forums
There DR1 experts and those who live in each area report back on the actual weather and forecasts for any storm that may affect this area.

IMHO, I believe you have forgotten last October's Hurricane Noel

Noel and Olga were but tropical storms, not hurricanes when they passed over the Dominican Republic. I corrected by statement above. Olga hit the DR in December not November, making it even more unusual as the hurricane season ends in November. But with global warming, we need to be aware past trends may not apply.

Default Location in the DR

You didn't mention your destination, but if you are coming to the North Coast of the DR, you have less chance seeing a storm than if you are in the South or East. Regardless of your destination your chances of having storm related problems are quite low.

Chances are Playa Dorada should be fine with nothing weather wise happening excepting sunshine, showers and slight breezes. All those things that make the Caribbean great!
