That bulletin will present a compilation of news stories from 29 December through 2 January 2000. In its place, the DR1 will be running a list of holiday activities throughout the nation.

Where the action is taking place
People are hanging out this Christmas Season and New Year evening and early morning at the Boulevard de la 27, Avenida del Puerto, Malecón and the Parque Colón in the Colonial City where live artistic presentations will take place. Leading Dominican hotels are offering big shows in the main halls. Following is a selection of some of the partying that will be going on that is open to the general public.

Santo Domingo
Every Sunday, through 2 January, the headquarters of the Banco Popular Dominicano (La Torre, Av. Máximo Gómez corner John F. Kennedy Avenue) stages a living nativity scene and presentation of the story of Christmas, "El Milagro de la Navidad." 43 actors and 30 singers delight all audiences at 7 pm on Sundays. Fireworks show at the end.

Christmas in the Colonial City
"Navidad 99" is the celebration of Christmas organized by the Ayuntamiento de Santo Domingo (city municipality), Secretaría de Turismo (ministry of tourism), Comisión de Monumentos (historic monuments commission), Oficina de Patrimonio Cultural (office of cultural heritage), and the Patronato de la Ciudad Colonial (board of the colonial city).
Most of the events take place at the Parque Colón (Isabel la Católica corner Conde), the Patronato de la Ciudad Colonial-Palacio Borgellá (Isabel la Católica 103) or the Palacio Consistorial (Arz. Meriño corner Conde), Cathedral of Santo Domingo (Arz. Meriño corner Arz. Nouel), Capilla de los Remedios (Calle Las Damas corner Mercedes).

4 pm. Caroling by the Rondalla of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo through the Colonial City.
7 pm. Christmas Sunsets. Concert by the Men's Choir of the Instituto Cultural Dominico- Americano, directed by Prof. Ramón E. Restituyo. Parque Colón.

Casino Hotel V Centenario Inter Continental. First International Magicians Festival. 27 Dec- 3 January as of 9 pm. Six leading Spanish magicians will interact with those visiting the casino as of 9 pm every evening. Card reading, and other astrology plays. Presentations of orchestras -Los Hijos de Puerto Rico, Grupo Mio, Rokabanda, Miriam Cruz, Michelle y su orquesta Pericombo, Anthony Rios. Humorist Jochy Santos, belly dance presentations. "Roncierto Brugal" is the name of the mega merengue music concert prepared by Brugal rum company for 31 December in Santo Domingo. Marco Antonio Solis, Elvis Crespo, Milly Quezada, Toño Rosario, Tribu del Sol and Raulin Rodríguez have been contracted to perform during the Roncierto Brugal 2000. The event, the main event planned for the start of the millennium celebration in the capital city, will take place at the Plaza de la Bandera. Organizers expect an attendance of 100,000 persons.
The leading attraction of the millennium concert, Elvis Crespo will perform in San Juan, Puerto Rico on 31 December from 12 midnight to 1 am in Puerto Rico and then take a private flight to Santo Domingo in time to perform from 3 to 4 am at the Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza de la Bandera). Crespo's "Suavemente" has sold three million copies. Roncierto is sponsored by Brugal rum.

Hotel Occidental Embajador has New Year dinner at its Resturant El Jardin and a Gran Fiesta with four orchestras (Los Toros Band, La banda Gorda, Sin Fronteras and house band) in the lobby of the hotel. Chocolate con churros in the early morning. RD$4,500 to RD$1,800 per person.

Meliá Santo Domingo offers New Years dinner at its Da Vinci and Casabe restaurants, breakfast and hotel room packages. RD$1,999 to RD$3,999.

V Centenario Inter-Continental Hotel offers dinner at its Restaurant Tascamar and big party at Salon Las Carabelas with the orchestras of Kinito Mendez, Los toros Band, Rubi Perez, Sergio Vargas, Joe Beras and Zaarías Ferreras.

Cafés located in the Boulevard of the 27 de Febrero Expressway will be working together to offer "The First Breakfast of the New Millennium." This will be offered from 5 am to 1 January 2000. The breakfast will offer Domincian breakfast (mangu, huevos, queso, jamón) to international and continental such as churros with chocolate, Spanish tortilla, muffins, donoughts, crepes, patties, coffee, tea, sandwiches. Also, cocido, sancocho, sopaus. As of 5 am there will be three environments ­ one with classic music, another with merengue and another with bachata.

Trío Café offers dancing with Sergio Vargas and Pradera Bar. Open bar with international drinks, champagne and breakfast. RD$1,000 per person. Starting 10 pm. Reservations 563-8272.

On TV
Channel 7, Antena Latina is announcing the for 1 January, the presentation of Andy García, Pavarotti and friends with Ricky Martin, Mariah Carey, Boyzone and Laura Pausini concert. On 2 January, they will retransmit the show of Oprah, Madona and Miss Universe from Venezuela.

Telemicro, Canal 5 is announcing for 31 December, as of 8 pm, they will tune in with Univisión to transmit the New Year celebrations from around the world, including the Times Square spectacle.

East Coast partying
La Romana Christmas events
The Altos de Chavón Amphitheater will be presenting an encounter of classical and popular music on 29 December. The event is directed by Maestro Carlos Piantini (http://www.fiu.edu/~music/piantini.html). Leading Dominican merengue music star Milly Quezada (http://www.lamusica.com/millyquezadaeng.htm) will go on stage as of 9 pm together with internationally acclaimed violin soloist Eugene Fodor and pianist Susan Starr from the United States. With them, the Dominican Philarmonic Orchestra. They will present Dominican classics such as, "Mi Quisqueya," by Mercedes Sagredo, "La Billirrubina", by Juan Luis Guerra. Tickets are already for sale at Casa de Campo for RD$350 and RD$600.
Fodor has performed for more than three decades as a soloist with appearances in more than 35 countries on five continents. His solos have been heard by two presidents and he has appeared on a number of television shows, including 20/20, Sunday Morning, the Tonight Show and others. H also has performed on television in Italy, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Japan and Korea.
Fodor made his solo debut at the age of 10 with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. He began touring after that, winning his first national competition at the age of 12. At 15, he performed with the Detroit Symphony and within three years won first prizes in six national competitions. In 1972 he won first prize in the International Paganini Competition in Italy and in 1974 won the highest prize awarded that year in the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
He attended the Juilliard School in New York, the Vienna Academy, Indiana University and the University of Southern California. His violin instructors have included Harold Wippler, Ivan Galamian, Josef Gingold, and Jascha Heifetz.
Susan Starr is regarded as one of America's most celebrated pianists. Since her triumph in Moscow's Tchaikovsky Competition, she has played to standing ovations in recital and with the world's most distinguished orchestras and conductors. Audiences throughout the world have be en enthralled by her artistry and her active international career has taken her on extensive tours of the Soviet Union, Far East, South America and Europe. Well-known for her recordings for RCA and Orion Master, Ms. Starr has been acclaimed by The New York Times as "a star of the first magnitude."

Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata partying
Playa Dorada Association is planning to break the world record for the largest Dominican stew ever cooked in the world. The chefs of the Playa Dorada hotel will gather together to prepare a sancocho for 10,000 people. The rcipe calls for 2,000 lbs. of beef and pork. The Association has contacted the Guiness Book of World Records and filled the requisites to apply for the new record.
A special pot was ordered in which to cook the sancocho. Metaldom manufactured it 10 feet wide by four feet high. A wooded oar will be used to mix the stew. The stew will be served on January 1, as of noon.
The Association has also organized a series of special events for the millennium last weekend.
29 December: exhibition of water sports, and horseback riding parade.
30 December: Motorized parade with cartoon characters.
31 December (midnight): Two orchestras playing at the parking lots of Plaza Playa Dorada and the Golf Club. Beach party with bonfires and fireworks. Presentation also of rock groups and multiple disc jokeys.
2-6 January. Art and handicraft exhibition. Merengue bands playing from 7 to 9:30 pm at the parking lots of the Plaza Playa Dorada and the golf club.
5 January: 11 pm-3 am party with Eddy Herrera and Orchestra.
6 January: Party with Huascar Banks and orchestra from 9:30 pm to 11 pm.

Observations for better partying
* Do not drink on an empty stomach.
* Wait at least 48 hours between food binges and heavy drinking to avoid diarrhea and digestive system back up.
* Chew your food, eat slowly for better digestion.
* Be aware that the mixing of diverse kinds of foods, and the ingestion of the fatty foods that make up the Dominican New Year menu, can result in a digestive overload.
* Wait two hours after a heavy meal before going to sleep.
* After a food and drink binge, eat light meals the next day, with lots of fruits and vegetables, and drink lots of water.
