My wife and I landed in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, on February 1, 2002. After a ten minute taxi drive we arrived at our destination, the Hotel Paraiso De Colon (www.paraisodecolon.com ), located in Sosua. We were greeted by Remo, one of the owners of the resort. This was the third time we vacationed in the Republic (also Puerto Plata, Cabarete, and Boca Chica) and this time we stayed one month at The Paraiso De Colon resort, owned by the Gastaldello family.
The resort is located in a quiet area on the outskirt of Sosua, a few minutes walk to the center of to the town of Sosua. The landscape consists of a majestic garden of tropical flowers and tropical trees. The swimming pool is large and well maintained. One can also exercise at an adjacent, fully equipped gym. Our apartment was spacious, comfortable, and furnished with air-conditioning and television. Our package included two meals a day. The food was prepared by an excellent cook .You can also have your laundry done on site at a modest cost.
Once a week the gracious Mrs. Gastaldello drove the guests to Cabarete Beach. At Cabarete we enjoyed renting a “Boogy Board” to surf the waves. Cabarete is also an excellent wind surfing beach. Sosua beach is our favorite for swimming, and snorkeling. It is easy to swim from shore to a fantastic reef inhabited by all kinds of tropical fish in the coral environment. Sosua is also very good for scuba diving. The Sosua area is also a rare opportunity for the serious photographer. The restaurant P&J serves excellent orange juice and pizza. Dominican beer is also excellent.

The cost for this outstanding experience was very reasonable. We made good friends with some of the guests and local people, and the weather was perfect (rained one day).
