emma weaver, my college age daughter and myself stayed at riu naiboa in march 2003. we visited all the riu hotels. riu bambu was our favorite pool for daytime. great pool bar, and a bueatiful pool. good place for lunch as well. your daughter would enjoy the stage shows at the bambu at nite. we did not feel the need to leave the complex. it is huge, the hotels are all in walking distance and we felt entertained. there is also a street for shopping. always something going on in the bueatful lobbys. we did walk pretty far down the beach both ways because we wanted to check out the so called tent sales. jewlry, and all kinds of things. when you are bargaing with the venders don't let them intimidate you they will surely try. they always start out with a very high price, sometimes you can get them down to half price. we felt very safe here, but just like anywhere you like to keep your kids in your sight! HAVE A GREAT TIME! sue

I've been at the Dominican Republic before. Not at the Riu Melao, but I am going there in june for my honeymoon. I can assure you that your daughter will have the time of here life in this RIU resort. RIU is wonderfull. Don't let the horror stories get to you, when you will stay at your resort nothing weird will happen. Just don't go out late at night to some small village, because thats not the safest thing to do.

Hi, We are going to visit the Riu Melao in august it will be our first time my only concern is that my daughter of 9 will be safe there cos since booking i've heard nothing but horror stories. They are all probably jealous, but would like to know how dangerous it really is outside of the complex.
