This was a great vacation. We booked with Vacation Express and experienced no trouble with ticketing, air service, transfers or reservations. The Palace is beautiful, very clean and well-kept. I feel it was absolutely worth paying a bit more to stay at the Palace versus the other Barcelo properties. The staff has limited english, but they are very good at figuring out what it is you want, and they couldn't be happier to take care of your needs. I really felt welcome, and that my travel dollars were appreciated here (unlike some other Carribbean destinations). The rooms are clean and large, and were ready as soon as our bus reached the resort (and pina coladas were brought to us to help us through the easy check-in process). Porters help you to your room with your luggage (and wait hopefully for a few dollars) unless you just grab your own bags and take them yourself, which is what we did. We took some money for tips and gave a few dollars here and there to exemplary staff, who seemed to appreciate it very much, but I did not feel we were expected to tip at any time. Throughout our stay we found the staff to be wonderful, the grounds to be spotless an the beaches are, of course, phenomenal.

We did a "discovery dive" with the Red Coral dive shop onsite, but a second dive with "Neptuno" dive shop just steps to the north proved to have a better dive site and more knowledgeable staff. I would definitely reccommend Neptuno (just north of the flea market in the Barcelo Villas property) for beginning or experienced divers.

The food was excellent, and they will continue to bring you as many lobsters as you can eat at the seafood restaurant. Do not expect normal American cuisine... this is not America. They prepare exotic dishes to the Dominican and European taste, so enjoy something a little different. I specifically enjoyed the paella at the Bohio rice restaurant, lobsters at La Brisa, and fresh-grilled lunch at Las Pinas outdoor beach grill. Breakfast is enormous at the buffet, and you can always stop by for an extra dessert there no matter where you dine. Drinks are plentiful and weak enough that I was able to enjoy them all day without becoming stupid.

Entertainment is.... entertaining. If you like girls dancing in very little clothing, you'll enjoy Tropicalissmo.

All in all I highly reccommend this experience to anyone who wants an excellent vacation value. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] and to check out our 200 (yes, 200) digital photos at www.drewvogel.com. I will be happy to share my experience here with anyone considering Dominican travel, particularly to the Barcelo resort.

Hey We are going to barcelo bavaro palace this coming weekend (June 5, 2006). I was curious as to how big the safe is and also if they have interent access. I am thinking og brining my 15.4" laptop but want to make sure it will fit in the safe.

Thanks.

Iwas very dissapointed with the service we got. On our second day we saw a local dying (not of natural causes) on the ground of the resort. that totally ruined my vacation, every time we would go on an activity i would see his puddle of blood. It had never been cleaned up. I wanted to go home and there was nothing we could do they were of no help or comfort.
