Well I just returned from Sun Village Resort. After reading maybe a hundred reviews I was a bit concerned that I may have made a bad decision about going to this resort. Many people complained about just about everything. Bugs, poor service, bland food, too many stairs, kids in the adult pool, and on and on. Well believe me last week there were no bugs really. Good food and tons of it with a good selection of everything. The wait staff were exception in both performance and attitude. The room was nicely appointed although not entierly with comfortable seating but I have a bad back so I'm fussy. The grounds of the resort were fabulous. Well tended and cleaned every day including the all the pools walkways lawns. Almost all the staff could speak english and those that couldn't would try to help. At the adult pool there were no kids spalshing and everything there was excellent. clean, quiet (no loud music, yelling, etc.,) just a great place to spend the morning lounging under a palm tree! Or a restful afternoon laying on the beach watching the people stroll about. The locals are allowed access to the beaches but they were really unobtrusive just wanting to play in the water like everyone else. They didn't bother anyone.

Ther are a lot of stairs just due to the geography. It didnt stop oldsters and families with strollers from going where ever. The room fridge was restocked and the room cleaned daily of course. My biggest complaint would have to be that our room was over looking the Dolphin pool which is where a lot of activities happened including drinking at the swim up bar. So if you want peace and quiet ask for a room away from there. Also the water pressure in the shower was only slighty higher than mist but I've experienced worse in Europe. I stilled showered with enough hot water to be comfortable.

Overall, my wife and I are looking at the resort plan to figure out which room to select next year when we go back.

One other thing... if you want to do any extra activities like snorkelling along a coral reef or into PP or the like take lots of American money because its all extra. This was our first trip to PP and we didn't really know. Everything is much cheaper in US$ compared to Pesos and its difficult to get American money down there.

My wife and I just returned from Sun Village and had a "Great" time. The food was abundant and very tasty. Our room was spotless and very bright. We were never bothered by young children in the adult pool. The chaise lounges in the water along the edge of the pools was a great idea for sun bathers. We had such a great time that we are planning to return again this fall. If you are looking for a place to go and have a fun filled time with good food, then this is the place for you.

My wife and I will be going on 2/22 for a week. My only concern is getting bumped from our room due to overbooking. Does anyone know if this happens often?
Thanks

Hello There,
I just read your review of the resort on dr1.com, and I just want to say THANK YOU!!! My friend and I are leaving for Puerto Plata on Sunday for a week's holiday. This week I've been reading many reviews of the resort. Some of them were extremely negative, so I've been getting nervous about my decision to book at Sun Village. Reading your review of your time there was a great big sigh of relief. So thank you for giving me hope and optimism. And thanks for the tip on bringing cash.
