The hotel is located about 15-20 minutes south of Barahona along the very scenic highway 44. It is situated on top of a hill and offers a gorgeous view. There are sweeping panoramas of the palm trees below with the Caribbean Sea in the background. Bonita! To the right there are green mountains with the town of Bahoruco mostly hidden behind the thick vegetation. The river Bahoruco flows down below and leads to Playa Bahoruco with it's smooth round white stones.
The hotel had recently undergone renovation. There is a beautiful new infinity pool which overlooks a deck with lounge chairs which overlooks the gorgeous view.
The dining area is open air and overlooks the pool and view. The seating area is very airy and comfortable with many cushions and pillows.
There are 12 loft style double bed rooms. All have red tile floors and great views of the ocean and/or the mountains. I believe six of the rooms have air conditioning. There is hot water.
The service was excellent and very personable. With only 12 rooms the hotel was never too crowded and on some days I had the pool all to myself.
Breakfast was included in the price of the room which was about $65-$70 US. I had lunch and dinner there. The seafood was very fresh and delicious. The arroz con guandoles was prepared with coconut milk, as it is all over that region. Delicious!
The owners Gina and Polibio even asked if I wanted anything special for dinner. That night I had arepitas de yuca to go with my dinner. Sabroso!
It was also very easy to find public transportation right in front of the hotel. There are about 5 beaches all within about 15 minutes of each other that I was able to explore. (See my trip report here on DR1 http://dr1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52911)
There were no TV's or disco, so it was a very relaxing stay. The setting, staff, and ambiance all contributed to one of the most mellow and most excellent vacations during my 17 years of traveling to the DR. Contento!
I have some photos here on DR1 in the media gallery section http://dr1.com/media/cgi-bin/media.cgi?direct=Gerace&img=0
The staff at the hotel can help arrange tours in the area and I can highly recommend Eco-Tours. They are a small tour company based in the town of Paraiso. I went with them to Bahia de las Aguilas and had a great time. Their tel # is 809-243-1190.
