Spanish investment in Cap Cana
The Spanish hotel and real estate group, NH has signed a partnership agreement with Cap Cana on the east coast of the Dominican Republic to build a luxury resort and 350 vacation apartments that will be part of a hotel rental pool. They will be in association 50-50%. The company envisages the operation of a 90-room beachside boutique hotel. An investment of US$100 million is contemplated.
5-kilometer race in Playa Dorada
There will be a 5km road race in Playa Dorada on November 27th beginning at 9:00am at the main parking lot at the Playa Dorada hotel complex in Puerto Plata. Participants should arrive at 8:00am to register or can register in advance by calling Marina Folco on 809-307-8459 or Sebastian Nenseff on 809-307-8456. Registration costs RD$250 for individuals or RD$500 for running teams. Registration includes a race shirt with a number and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in categories by age (15-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50). Tomas Hungria to lead Caribbean wellbeing effort
Dominican Tomas Hungria has been selected to spearhead the first efforts of the Caribbean Spa & Wellness Association (CSWA). He will be the first chairman of the task force team to launch the organization. Tomas Hungria is the Corporate SPA Manager of inSense SPA at Coral Hotels & Resorts in the Dominican Republic. He was chosen during the First Caribbean Spa & Wellness Conference held in St. Lucia 1-4 November. Along with Hungria, Andrew Barnard and Lisa Manser from St. Lucia, Brigit Brin from St. Barth, and Sam Raphael and Sharon Jones from Dominica are part of the organizing board of the newly formed CSWA.
Delegates and presenters from more than ten Caribbean nations participated in the event and listened to presentations by experts from the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Spa & Wellness trends in North America, Asia and Europe were discussed.
The event was sponsored by the Center for the Development of Enterprises, part of the European Union organization. The hosts of the First Caribbean SPA & Wellness Conference were Mara Jane Caudron, coordinator, Denzil Phillips, consultant and Paolo Lamin, Caribbean representative of the CDE.
The Second Caribbean SPA & Wellness Conference is already being planned for the first week of November 2006 in the Dominican Republic.
