Caribbean brand launched
The Caribbean Tourism Organization and the Caribbean Hotel Association have announced the start of their new Caribbean branding program. The aim is to raise awareness of the diversity of vacation experiences and facilities throughout the region, all linked with one identifiable Caribbean logo.
The creation of this new branding effort began in October 2005 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation by the CTO Chairman, Hon. Pamela C. Richards, and CHA President, Berthia Parle, followed by the formulation of plans under the dual direction of the CTO Secretary General and the Director General of CHA. Those plans have resulted in the creation of a "One Caribbean" strategy for extending the Caribbean brand.
Puerto Rico, Bahamas, St. Kitts, US Virgin Islands, and Sandals and Beaches Resorts have signed on as charter partners and will be including the logo in their advertising.
IFA Hotels announces new resort
A year of success has encouraged the Spanish-German IFA Hotels company to expand its presence in the Dominican Republic. The company announced it would build a five star hotel in Punta Cana, where it already operates three hotels. The 480 bed hotel would go up with a US$35 million investment. Construction would begin later this year, announced the president of the board of IFA Hotels & Touristik, Santiago Armas.
Food festivals at Altos de Chavon
Casa de Campo is announcing five food festivals for Altos de Chavon in the summer. These are: a Mexican Food Festival, Mexican Fiesta for 15-17 June at El Sombrero Plaza. The plan is to transform the restaurant and surrounding area into a Mexican street fair, with fun activities and live music, and a Mexican dinner buffet each night. Other activities for the weekend include a beach volleyball tournament and Quebradita dance contest.

Then a French Romance festival is set for 14 July, and an Italian Taste Festival for 10-15 August. The festival spree will close with a Dominican Festival from 16 to 20 August.
