Wave pool in Playa Dorada
First Choice Holiday Village Golden Beach is another brand new hotel in Playa Dorada that has opened in time for the winter season. The former Jack Tar Village is now a family-oriented resort promoting itself as a 24-hour all-inclusive retreat with a choice of pools that includes the only wave pool in the DR. While family rooms and a fun kids’ clubs are included, the hotel retains an exclusive adult-only area.
Casa Colonial positioned with New Yorkers
In its 13 December issue, the New York Post highlighted what it named “a list of the top five properties booked by New Yorkers in the past year,” that is “where your neighbors went on vacation this year – listed by number of bookings.” The newspaper pointed out that the DR took the top two spots with Casa Colonial Beach & Spa “Just 40 rooms centered around a lovely mansion – this place is severely sexy, even if Puerto Plata’s no Punta Cana.” And Sivory Punta Cana, which it describes as “Very popular new entry outside of PC-proper, we’d definitely choose Casa Colonial though.” Others listed in the top five are Saint James in Paris, Hotel Art by Piazzi di Spagna in Rome, and Grand Hotel & Thalasso Spa in Saint Jean de Luz, France.
Punta Espada is on Nicklaus Calendar cover
Punta Espada has been chosen to grace the cover of the Jack Nicklaus 2007 Calendar. The photograph by Dick Durrance was chosen from images of hundreds of golf courses around the world. The 13th hole is considered Punta Espada’s “signature” hole and is a spectacular 250-yard par 3 that is sure to become one of the world’s most photographed holes. It requires golfers to execute a challenging tee shot over the ocean into a picturesque green surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
Canadian travel requirements
Canadians traveling to the Dominican Republic booking direct flights can continue to do so using an original birth certificate and accepted photo ID card. But Canadians, like US citizens, may have problems boarding a flight from Canada to the DR if they will be making transit in the United States and do not have a passport. The US Western Travel Initiative requires all travelers entering the United States from the Dominican Republic to have a valid passport, including US citizens. The passport requirement comes into effect as of 23 January 2007, but airlines may require the passport earlier than the cut-off date.
