Trump is a great salesman
In just four hours, the Donald Trump-sponsored project at Cap Cana sold US$300 million worth of property, about 95% of the total lots available. The Trump Farallon at Cap Cana offers lots of between 6,000 and 24,000 square meters on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean. Investors from Europe, the United States and Latin America, including Dominicans, acquired the lots. The project will be developed over a three or four-year time span, and includes villas, condos, hotels and an apartment tower as well as golf and other recreational facilities. During his announcement at the press conference, Trump praised the entire Cap Cana project, and pointed out that the day's sales had been a record for the entire Caribbean.
Largest cruise ship to visity
The largest cruise ship in the world, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines' Freedom of the Seas, will be visiting La Romana port this Wednesday, 23 May. The 155,000-ton ship has capacity for 4,500 passengers. La Romana Port is served by Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises and Aida Cruise ships. More than a quarter of a million cruise ship passengers visited the DR through La Romana port in the 2006/2007 season. The number of passengers is expected to double for the 2007/2008 season that begins in October. Attractions for passengers in the La Romana area include the Altos de Chavon artists' village, the modern Casa de Campo marina, and the town of La Romana itself, with its arts and crafts shops.
JetBlue opens ticketing office in SD
JetBlue, which resumes flights into Las Americas International (SDQ) from John F Kennedy International on Thursday, 24 May, has opened a City Ticket Office at Plaza Las Americas II on Winston Churchill Avenue. The new office is on the shopping center's second level. Another low cost carrier, Spirit Airlines, is located in the same building.
Portillo new air terminal
Portillo Airport near Las Terrenas has a new terminal as the Samana peninsula prepares for larger-scale tourism. The new terminal has comfortable seating in its waiting area, and is mainly served by domestic traffic and small commuter carriers Aerodomca, Vol-Air, SapExpress and Air Century. The new terminal also features an air-conditioned VIP lounge. The old shack-type terminal is a thing of the past. The old airport among the palm trees served many jetsetters as they flew into the remote hideaway destination that is now also served by the international airport at El Catey. Once the new highway is completed, Samana will be accessible from Santo Domingo in less than two hours driving time.
