The National Hotel & Restaurant Association will be hosting its 21st Trade Exhibition from 29 August to 1 September at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel's convention center. The exhibition traditionally brings together leaders from the tourism business and industry suppliers. The event is also very popular with the Dominican public in general. This year, 170 stands with 105 exhibitors from the DR and abroad will be presenting their products and services to hotels and restaurants. "This is a very complete event where suppliers can strengthen their business relations with their principal clients as well as attracting new clients," Thelma Martinez, Asonahores marketing director told Listin Diario. In addition to the exhibitions, talks, workshops and contests are organized for participants.
|Caetano Veloso at Altos de Chavon
With summer winding up and the kids about to return to school, Casa de Campo brings Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso to perform at its 5,000-seat Altos de Chavon amphitheater in La Romana on Friday, 17 August at 8pm. Note that Friday is the start of a long weekend in the DR, with Monday off for Restoration Day celebrations (commemorating the return of independence from Spain in 1865). Veloso has been called the Bob Dylan of Brazil and the Brazilian troubadour. The New York Times described him as "Brazil's unofficial poet laureate." He recently released Ce, with rock tunes, produced together with his son. General admission to the Altos de Chavon concert is RD$1,000, preferred center seating RD$2,500 and VIP tickets RD$4,000.

|Tracking hurricanes in the DR
DR1 makes it easy for travelers to the DR to monitor storms that enter the Caribbean. DR1 provides comprehensive coverage, with updates about storms several times a day. Tropical Storm Dean is expected to be the first hurricane to come our way this season. Early week forecasts from the National Hurricane Center of the US show it approaching sufficiently south of the DR for the country to avoid being affected. But, given the changing nature of tropical storms, it is important to watch the storm as it makes its way across the Caribbean.
