Earlier the company also announced the addition of the Sunscape Casa del Mar Resort in Bayahibe. Internet gains as way tourists learn about DR
More tourists are learning about the Dominican Republic through the Internet, according to the most recently published Opinion, Attitude and Motivation Survey to Non-Resident Foreign Arrivals carried out by the Central Bank. In 2006, 9.9% of visiting tourists found out about the DR through the Internet, compared to 7.5% in 2005 and 4.9% in 2004. The survey showed that travel agencies prevail as the most important source of how tourists found out about the country, with 30% (down from 35.7% in 2005), followed by friends with 22%. 24.8% mentioned a previous visit.
Why the tourists come
The 2006 Central Bank motivation survey indicates that the beaches (33.5%) and climate (18.1%) were the main draws for visiting the DR in 2006. Non-resident foreign arrivals were polled upon departure for the survey. This compares to 36.7% and 18.6% that tourists pinpointed beaches and sun were the reasons they came in 2005. The exit poll showed that repeat visits were up with 17.9% saying they had visited before compared to 14.7% in 2005.
