Beautiful Dominican women
The DR continues to make the statement that its women are beautiful.
The DR contestant, Marianne Cruz, placed third in the Miss Universe contest held last week in Vietnam. Miss Dominican Republic was third behind Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza, the winner, and Miss Colombia, first finalist. In 2003, Miss Amelia Vega was chosen Miss Universe in the event held in Panama. In the contest, she also placed among the top 10 for National Costume.
Dominican fashion face
Arlenis Pena Sosa is modeling world's new darling. The 19-year old Dominican from Monte Cristi was signed by Marilyn Model Management agency in New York, after she was discovered locally by designer Luis Menieur. Since 2006, she worked occasionally for the Menieur Model Management agency, competing in the 2006 Elite Model Look contest and participating in the local Fashion Week. Since she was signed by Marilyn agency in March 2008, her photos have appeared in Vogue US and Vogue Italia, among other magazines. She is scheduled for a September Vogue spread and recently landed a contract with Lancome cosmetics.
She has also walked in the fashion runs for resort ware for Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Narciso Rodriguez, Jason Wu, Carolina Herrera, Carlos Miel. She has been the image for H&M and Gap stores.
Caribe Tours opens new route
The Caribe Tours Company, the largest bus company in the Dominican Republic, has opened a new route to Dajabon and Haiti's second city, Cap-Haitien. The new route will go through Ouanaminthe (Juana Mendez) on the Haitian border and continue on to Cap-Haitien on the north coast of the neighboring country. This is the second international route covered by Caribe Tours. The first links Santo Domingo with Jimani and Petionville, in Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital.
The new route will make it easier for independent tourists in the DR to visit the legendary Citadelle monument in Cap Haitien.
