Santo Domingo in Sunday NYTimes
The New York Times published in its Sunday, 9 November issue a feature on the city of Santo Domingo. Written by Marc Lacey, the feature primarily focused on the things and places Dominican in the Colonial City. There are mentions of the Calle El Conde, the Meson D'Bari and El Sarten restaurants, ambar and tobacco shops. But there are also mentions of the cave restaurant and night spots such as Meson de la Cava and Guacara Taina and the Columbus Lighthouse that are other attractions in the capital city.

Bump, Set, Spike!
Playa Dorada hosted the Second Annual Caribbean Beach Volleyball Series on Saturday, 8 November and Sunday, 9 November. The event began on Saturday at Playa Dorada beach and at 5pm the Conde Nast Bridal Media "Sparkle in Sand" final competition took place where two chosen couples competed digging in the sand for a US$5,000 diamond wedding ring and a romantic getaway to Puerto Plata. Top teams from ten regional US tournaments contended for the final cash prize of US$1,000 and the Caribbean Challenge Trophy. The Ministry of Tourism and the Puerto Plata Association of Hotels hosted a Dominican night on Saturday evening. On Sunday, 9 November, the top men's and women's teams were honored with the US$1,000 cash prize and Caribbean Challenge Trophy at an awards presentation. Among the highlighted players that participated were: Megan Wallin (Siesta Key, FL), Ola Wolak (Jersey City, NJ), Adam Roberts (Myrtle Beach, SC), Mike DiPierro (Pompano Beach, FL), Jake Elliott (Mt Pleasant, SC), Kim Whitney (Dunedin, FL), and Tara Kuk (Clearwater, FL).
Las Arenas Beach Residences
On 8 October 2008 Las Arenas Beach Residences of Juan Dolio held a launch party at Saffron in Santo Domingo to present their luxurious apartment high-rise on the beach of Juan Dolio. Consisting of 206 apartments, Las Arenas will feature one-bedroom lofts, two-, three- and four-bedroom condominiums, as well as penthouse apartments. DR leads for the Caribbean in luxury collection
Two new luxury Dominican holiday properties have been added to the prestigious Island Destinations' Travelers Collection 2009 by Island Destinations, the Virtuoso and Signature Travel network's preferred luxury tour operator. With the addition of Cap Cana's Caleton Beach Club & Villas and Paradisus Palma Real Resort, the DR now has seven properties in this prestigious collection. The others are Sivory Punta Cana and Tortuga Bay, also in Punta Cana, and Casa Colonial Beach & Spa in Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata along with Casa de Campo in La Romana. The DR is the Caribbean country with the most luxury properties in the collection.
The tour operator unveiled its Travelers Collection 2009, the 25th Anniversary edition to 150 luxury travel professionals on 5 November at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The collection includes 123 of some the world's more exclusive hotels and resorts including properties in Bali, Fiji, Costa Rica, Dubai, Mexico, French Polynesia, Hawaii, and the Maldives in addition to the Caribbean.
At the event, the two new Dominican properties added to the list, the Caleton Beach Club & Villas became the first time recipients of the Ultimate Villas award and Ultimate All-Inclusive award, respectively.
