Lan new routes to Latin America
Lan Airlines has requested permission to fly the Santiago de Chile/Guayaquil/Quito/PuntaCana/Miami route. Also the Santiago de Chile/Cancun/Punta Cana/Miami route. Also the Santiago de Chile/Punta Cana/La Havana/Santiago de Chile route. The airline has rights to pick up travel within each of these destinations, meaning Punta Cana gets a Punta Cana to Havana route, making multi-destination travel a reality.
And Lan Airlines will be offering nonstop from Punta Cana to Lima, Peru starting 2 September 2009. The flight departs on Wednesdays and Sundays leaving Punta Cana at 1:45pm and arriving Lima at 6pm. And then leaving Lima at 12:30pm and arriving to Punta Cana at 6:30pm. Flying time is about 5:15 minutes.
Taca already has a Santo Domingo nonstop to Lima, Peru.
National Visual Arts Bienal
This year the 25th Biennial of the Arts is dedicated to painter Ramon Oviedo on the occasion of his 85th birthday. The Biennial brings together a collective exhibition of some of the best in painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video, multimedia, ceramics, visual plastic arts, performances and installations. Friday live artistic performances (classic, hip hop & reggaeton, percussion and merengue, bachata and son music) make it all the more special. Beach clean up day
Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup will take place in the DR on Saturday, 19 September from 9am to 12pm. This volunteer organization is coordinating an event when thousands of volunteers will visit beaches, riers and coastline to collect garbage and solid wastes. The event is coordinated in the DR by Fundacion Vida Azul.

Caribbean Cigar Night at Playa Dorada
The Hotel Association of Playa Dorada is hosting its first Blending Seminar with instructor Jose Blanco, of La Aurora from Santiago de los Caballeros, world capital of cigar production. The event is booked for the Salon Criollo of the Puerto Plata Village at Playa Dorada at 5pm on Friday, 18 September and will be in English. The workshop is limited to 50 people, so early purchase is recommended. Participants will learn the epicurian art of cigar smoking, so not to have to rely so much on word to mouth.
Jose Blanco will share his no-nonsense approach to learn more of the facts and fictions of cigar smoking. With over 40 years in the industry, the master blender of La Aurora is enlighten his audiences. From the curious to the hardcore aficionado are encouraged to participate. Price per person: RD$950.
