Fernandez at WTO
President Leonel Fernandez will receive an award from the World Tourism Organization in Madrid when he travels there on 17 May. President Fernandez will be in Madrid for the Summit of Presidents and Heads of Government of the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean set for 17-18 May, as reported in Listin Diario. WTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai said that the DR leads in the Caribbean due to efforts to attract investments and new markets, primarily from Europe.
Dominican ambassador Cesar Medina met with him in his office in Madrid and extended an invitation from President Fernandez for Rifai to attend the summit of presidents and heads of government in Santo Domingo on 2 June to discuss Haiti. Present at the meeting was the regional representative for the Americas for the World Tourism Organization Carlos Yogeler, and Michel Julian, of the WTO, a Dominican national.
During his trip to Europe, Fernandez will also travel to Italy. The government has announced that his agenda in Rome will include a visit to the Vatican.
Taste of Punta Cana
Moon Palace Punta Cana presents Taste Punta Cana 2010, a Caribbean Food and Wine Affair, on 4 and 5 June. The schedule includes a grand opening party with jazz music on Friday, 4 June, culinary performances, a marketplace, grand tasting, and conferences and a rock closing bash on Saturday.
Punta Cana gets JetBlue flights from NY and Boston
JetBlue Airways has begun flights to Punta Cana from John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York and Logan International Airport in Boston operating A320 aircraft. The daily nonstop flights will be year-round to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) and JFK but on Saturdays to Boston.
Punta Cana becomes JetBlue's 15th international destination and fourth destination in the DR. The airline has grown substantially in recent years and now claims to be the nation's #1 airline.
"JetBlue is happy to be adding Punta Cana to our group of Dominican destinations. We are confident this destination will be, like our other destinations on the island, a great success," said Scott Laurence, JetBlue's vice president of network planning.
