Ariel Corniel wins PKRA Kiteboard Cup
Dominican Ariel Corniel won the 9th Kiteboarding 2010 World Cup in the competition that took place at Bozo Beach, Cabarete over the weekend with the participation of 52 competitors from 20 countries. The 18-year old defeated world champion Kevin Langeree in the finals. Langeree is a previous Cabarete Cup winner. In third place was Italian Alberto Rondina. In the women's competition, Spain's Gisela Pulido, three times world kite boarding champion, won the Cabarete 2010 Cup defeating Johana Litwin from Poland. Third place went to Karolina Winkowska of Poland, and fourth to Brazilian champion Bruna Kajiya.
This is Ariel Corniel's first world kiteboarding title. This annual event is organized by the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association.
The Butterfly Effect
The Butterfly Effect is in its second year in Cabarete. This worldwide movement brings women together for non-competitive ocean sport gatherings in coastal cities all over the world. The aim is to instill self-confidence and a love for the ocean in women of all skill levels. The Butterfly Effect also aims to work with the local community and provide free lessons/clinics for women and children. The Butterfly Effect began in Hawaii in 2007 by water women, Tatiana Howard and Juliana Shelef. Since then, Tatiana and/or Juliana have flown to organize the event in Brazil, New Zealand, France, the US, Germany, Tahiti, Dominican Republic and Australia for group surf sessions and clinics. This year there will be windsurfing, kiting, stand up paddle, kayaking and laser sailing. Other locations for the Butterfly Effect this year are Hood River (Oregon), Maui (Hawaii), Italy, Brazil and Fiji.

ITB brings the world together
Rosalinda Thomas, local representative of the ITB Berlin, the world's leading trade show, is organizing the DR's participation in next year's event. This past March, 11,127 companies from 197 countries (up from 11,098) in 2009) exhibited the international travel industry's entire range of products and services. Due to a well-chosen range of topics, the ITB Berlin Convention also exercises its role as the travel industry's foremost discussion forum and think tank, with attendance rising again with 12,500 delegates taking part in the convention. The German tourism industry estimates that six billion euros worth of business was concluded at the ITB.
For more information and to participate in the fair for the DR, contact Rosalinda Thomas at Thomas International, 170 Av. Pedro Henriquez Urena, Santo Domingo, Tel. 809 472-0815. Or write to Rosalinda Thomas at [email protected] or [email protected]
