Surfers get together
Dominican surfers participated in the Northeast Surfing Championship 2010 organized by the Federation of Dominican Surfing at Cayena Beach in Nagua, on the northeast over the weekend of 31 July and 1 August. Surfers and bodyboarders came from Puerto Plata, Cabarete, Sosua, Rio San Juan, Nagua, Las Terrenas (Samana), Bahoruco and Santo Domingo.
The event is the fourth in the national competition that ranks the best athletes that will represent the DR in international events.

Palladium Olympics
Taking advantage of its top sports facilities, Palladium Hotel & Resort is promoting Sport Summers. The promotion encourages those who love sports but also want to vacation to invite fellow team members to host their own particular games during the annual tournaments organized by the resort.
The Palladium Olympics, of the Grupo Fiesta, are divided into four categories: family, groups, companies, couples and retirees. "These games can serve to bring members of a family, work colleagues and friends together, for healthy fun," says Erick Castillo, marketing director at the resort. There will be preliminary rounds with a winner by individual groups, with the sponsors providing attractive promotional awards. The finalists will be invited to participate in the Olympics with awards from the sponsors.
Samana realtors unite
Leading real estate and hotel companies of Samana have come together as the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samana (AEHTSA).
Cynthia Vega, of Bahia Estillero, is the first president of the organization. During the new group presentation at the National Hotel & Restaurant Association in Santo Domingo, Vega said the new organization would work for the orderly and sustainable growth of Samana, taking advantage of the natural, cultural and social attractions of the region. They hope to integrate tourism businesses for an active participation in the development of the region.
Other board members are: Julio Llibre (Coral Hospitality Corp.), Enrique L. Pacheco (Aerodom), Ernesto Selman Mejia, (Nexos RD), Jose Miguel Barcelo Vallejo, (Marina Puerto Bonito), Jose A. Quiroz Abreu, (DMK Abogados), Ramon E. Prieto Vicioso (Promotores de Desarrollo El Portillo), Cruz Apestegui (Rincon Bay), Rafael Blanco Canto (Viva), Rafael Velasco Espaillat (Compania de Electricidad de Bayahibe), Juan Francisco Bancalari (Playa Dosu), Jaime Barcelo Bermejo (Balcones del Atlantico) and Jose Miguel Gonzalez Cuadra (Centro Cuesta Nacional).
Fabeth Martinez is the first executive director of AEHTSA. She says they would work closely with the Tourism Cluster of Samana, Tourism Cluster of El Limon and government institutions.
Budget Travel readers vote for DR
Over 160,000 readers of Budget Travel magazine voted the Dominican Republic as the best Value Destination. Budget Travel's Editor in Chief, Nina Willdorf, announced on NBC's The Today Show on 29 July that the DR won the Readers Choice Award. The magazine's readers recognized the DR as an affordable and easily-accessible destination for US travelers.
Nina Willdorf, Budget Travel editor, noted, "Budget Travel readers are always looking for affordable, exotic vacation ideas and the DR was the clear front-runner in the category for best value destination. The DR is an easy island escape that's close to home."

Luxury Living International mentioned Coson Beach in Las Terrenas, DR and Juanillo Beach in Punta Cana, DR on its list for the "Top 10 Beaches to Live on in Paradise" in 2010.
Teeing Off
GolfWeek selected Punta Espada Golf Course in Cap Cana as the best course of the Caribbean and Mexico for 2010. This acknowledgment marks the second consecutive year that the course has earned the top spot in the magazine's annual ranking.
GolfWeek has included nine Dominican golf courses on its "2010 Best Courses of the Caribbean and Mexico:" Teeth of the Dog Golf Course (Casa de Campo) in La Romana; Dye Fore Golf Course (Casa de Campo) in La Romana; Playa Grande Golf Course in Rio San Juan; Roco Ki Faldo Legacy Golf Course in Macao, Punta Cana; La Romana Country Club (Casa de Campo); Guavaberry Golf & Country Club in Juan Dolio; La Cana Golf Course (Puntacana Resort & Club); and Links Golf Course (Casa de Campo) in La Romana.
