Chile miners invited to vacation here
The Ministry of Tourism has invited the 33 rescued Chilean miners to vacation in the DR. The miners who were rescued after spending 69 days trapped in a mine some 700 meters below ground in the Atacama desert have been invited with all expenses paid. Dominican ambassador in Chile, Pablo Marinez made the announcement on behalf of Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia. 7dias.com.do says the story was first released by the online news service cronista.com quoting a DPA wire story.
Ambassador Marinez made the point that Dominicans followed the miners' saga day by day and celebrated the happy ending. "In recognition and appreciation to these men for their proven bravery (...) the minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, Don Francisco Javier Garcia, through his Ambassador Pablo Marinez, has the honor of formally inviting the 33 miners and their families to vacation in the DR with expenses paid," reads the document. The note also congratulates President Sebastian Pinera for the successful rescue operation.
