Masters Surf Reunion in Cabarete
This year Playa Encuentro is again hosting the annual Masters Surf Reunion in Cabarete. Surfers of all ages will gather from 3 to 5 November for the three-day fun and surf event.
There will be competitions in the Master category for the over-35s, Grand Master for the over-40s, Kahuna for the over-45s, Grand Kahuna for the over-50s, Legends for the over-55s and Women Master for the over-35s. There will also be a special award for the Comeback, recognizing people who haven't surfed in a long time. Other awards include the best in longboard, master boogie board and parents and children.
The opening party is on Thursday at the Bar Lounge Millennium.
Ricky Martin in Santo Domingo
Livin' la Vida Loca legend Ricky Martin will be back in Santo Domingo for a second performance. Ricky Martin and Wisin y Yandel are booked for a 19 November show at the Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo. This is a Saymon Diaz promotion. Ricky Martin is currently on his M.A.S. Tour of Latin America. Duo Wisin y Yandel will perform their track Frio live, recorded in three voices. The video has received rave reviews.
Cigar Night in Santo Domingo
Olivo Restaurant is hosting the first Caribbean Cigar Night in Santo Domingo. Live music with Sandy Gabriel, live performance by painter Pedro Tereiro. The event, on 11 November 2011 at 7:30pm is a benefit for the Nido para Angeles charity. Birdwatching at the National Botanical Garden
The Hispaniola Ornithological Society (SOH) organizes a walk every first Sunday of every month at 7am. This means the next is on Sunday, 6 November. Birdwatchers meet at the front gate of the Botanical Gardens. Located in the northern part of Santo Domingo, the 200-hectare botanical garden's riparian habitat, wooded areas, open palm savannas and other areas provide many opportunities to watch many interesting endemic and migratory birds. Entrance fee: Dominicans: RD$50, non-Dominican citizens: US$5. Opening hours are 9am to 5pm, but birdwatchers may enter any time after 6am with identifying binoculars in hand. Species to observe: West-Indian Whistling Duck, Least Grebe, Common Moorhen, Limpkin, White-winged Dove, Hispaniolan Parakeet, Mangrove Cuckoo, Hispaniolan Lizard-Cuckoo, Antillean Palm-Swift, Gray Kingbird, Black-whiskered Vireo, Northern Mockingbird, Palmchat, Black-crowned Palm-Tanager, Hispaniolan Woodpecker.
