Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders at Iberostar Costa Dorada
The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders have released their 2012 Swimsuit Calendar and television specials, which were filmed in the Dominican Republic's top ecotourism paradise of Puerto Plata at the Iberostar Costa Dorada resort and surrounding attractions. The swimsuit calendar is available online for $15.99 from www.shop.dolphins.com.
"The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism welcomed 22 cheerleaders to Puerto Plata's breathtaking scenery among limitless eco-adventures and vibrant history, making it a memorable setting for the Miami Dolphins Cheerleader Calendar," said Magaly Toribio, Vice Minister of International Promotion for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism.
"In support of a special partnership with one of the most famous football teams in the nation, the IBEROSTAR Costa Dorada served as the tropical backdrop for the 2012 Miami Dolphins Cheerleader Calendar," said John Long, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts. "The five-star, all-inclusive IBEROSTAR Costa Dorada provided upscale accommodations, expansive pools, fine dining venues and superior customer service for a memorable vacation experience."
During their stay, the cheerleaders enjoyed exquisite culinary offerings, vibrant entertainment, upscale rooms with panoramic views and easy accessibility to the North Coast recreational offerings, including beach towns like Cabarete, Cofresi, Sosua and nearby mountains studded with waterfalls.

The new Plaza Guibia
The Santo Domingo Cluster is managing the gazebos at the soon to be opened Plaza Guibia. The new recreation area located in the centrally-located city coastline park is opening Sunday, 20 November. City Mayor Roberto Salcedo said the agreement is for the Cluster to reimburse the municipality with 30% of earnings from the rentals. Salcedo says the agreement ensures the sustainability of the new recreational area. Plaza Guibia will have a sand court for beach volleyball, free gym area, bike path, and public space for concerts. 16 closed-circuit video cameras have been installed to enhance security in the park.
The park area is expected to follow the successful operation of the Plaza Juan Baron, further to the east on the Malecon.
The Malecon is the 14-km long Caribbean Sea-bordering boulevard, voted one of the seven jewels of the city during a contest held in 2010 on the occasion of the celebration of Santo Domingo as American Capital of Culture.
Baseball is now more entertainment than sport
Gorgeous long-haired and long-limbed cheerleaders, contests for children, contests for the fans to win a plasma TV (for men) or a washing machine (for women) while the pitcher warms up, bars and restaurants on the premises, are just some of the new features of the Dominican Winter Baseball League. Baseball games are becoming more like entertainment than sports. El Caribe reports that these changes are attracting more fans.
There are stadiums in La Romana (Francisco Micheli, home of the 2010-11 Champions, Los Toros), Santo Domingo (Quisqueya, home to the Leones del Escogido and Tigres del Licey), San Pedro de Macoris (Tetelo Vargas, 20 minutes from Juan Dolio hotels, home to the Estrellas Orientales), Santiago (Cibao, home to the Aguilas Cibaenas), San Francisco de Macoris (Julian Javier, home to the Gigantes del Cibao, and one hour from Las Terrenas, Samana hotels). Anyone interested in seeing a baseball game can take a taxi, or better yet, just invite the taxi driver to join you so he can explain the game and take you back to the hotel late in the evening. There are also many taxis waiting outside the stadiums to take people home. Check out the upcoming games at www.lidom.com.do
