Jazz & Christmas music
Dominican Fiesta Hotel & Casino's 8th floor lounge presents The Jefferson Faculty and an evening of Jazz, Blues, R&B, Contemporary Pop, Christmas tunes & more this coming Friday, 16 December as of 7pm. Av. Anacaona 101, Mirador Sur. No cover, but reservations are necessary at 809 562-9222.
The Jefferson Faculty was formed in 2010, playing classical jazz and contemporary pop. The original ideas for this project were put together by the band?s vocalist, Anthony Jefferson, who started searching for and selecting musicians who had the talent and the passion for the music he wanted to perform. He found them and they are: saxophonist Jonathan Pina Duluc, pianist Smarlly Belliard, drummer Emil Garcia and bassist Euris Belliard. Since they started playing, they have worked with original material captivating enthusiasm from diverse types of audiences. As a result of their dedication and musical refinement, they have just released the album A Jazz Retrospect, with a harmonious selection of songs to delight the senses.
Jefferson, a native of New Orleans, began singing in his childhood, in an environment rich in Blues, Jazz and R & B, refining it later by studying classical repertoire at the Institute of Arts in California, with Paul Vorwek and continuing at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Prior to forming his own band, he shared the stage with artists such as Mark Rapp, Wille Jones 3rd, Mark Shelby, Bobby Wilson and Brent Rose, just to name a few.

Hotel El Pedernal, newest option in Pedernales
Travelers visiting Bahia de las Aguilas, the Bay of the Eagles where one can see a white sand Caribbean beach untouched by flora changes brought by European settlers, or Hoyo de Pelempito (Pelempito Drop), a vertical valley surrounded by pines, in the Dominican far west, now have a new place to stay. The USAID-DSTA Alliance for Sustainable Tourism funded the hotel's refurbishment under its Destination Funds program. USAID contributed RD$2.4 million to the Foundation for the Integral Development of the Community of Pedernales (Fundacipe), which provided an equal amount in collateral funds. The funds were invested in improving the existing facilities, building a cafeteria, renovating the hotel's electricity and plumbing systems and providing new furnishings for the rooms. Brochures were printed for Fundacipe's Nature Interpretation Center next to its arts and crafts shop on the premises. A program for training hotel staff was coordinated with the Sustainable Tourism Cluster of Pedernales. The 13-room hotel is located in the city of Pedernales. It has nine doubles and four suites, as well as a meeting room with audiovisual equipment with capacity for 30 people.
Pedernales is one of 10 tourism destinations where the USAID-DSTA program has made contributions. The USAID support to tourism programs will continue in 2012 with technical assistance by way of the Dominican Tourism Competitiveness Consortium.
