Sexy pink and kiteboarding
Cabarete is all about surfing - windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing, paddle surfing, you name it... Now a new video by Jacob Rachniowski is making waves as he puts beautiful girls in kitesurfing gear and sets them up for a party on ocean and in the air in pink. Check out the great kitesurfing spots, kite shops, tasty gastronomy, stunning water and sparkling waves as you follow the girls and friends.
"After a lingerie party at Millennium Resort, in the kite town of Cabarete, Dominican Republic, a few friends and I decided that making a kiteboarding video with that theme would be a good idea", tells Rachniowski, as reported in Surfer Today. www.surfertoday.com/videos/6632-kiteboarding-girls-in-lingerie
Amelia Vega weds Al Horford
27-year old Amelia Vega has promised that she and her new husband, 25-year old Al Horford will invite many friends to their formal wedding. But in a surprise wedding on Christmas Eve at her Uncle Juan Luis Guerra and Aunt Nora Vega's house in Santo Domingo, she wed Puerto Plata-born star Atlanta Hawks basketball player. Horford has a five-year US$85 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks. Vega is the daughter of a physician resident in Miami and her mother Patricia Polanco was a former Miss Dominican Republic in 1980. The NBA tournament has resumed in the US and Horford was just able to grab the few days for the ceremony. Indeed, Diario Libre reported he arrived on 23 December and met with the chief of the Police and then was at the Central Electoral Board to renew his Dominican ID-cedula, needed to wed Amelia Vega as a Dominican. Horford is the son of a former Dominican Republic team basketball player, Tito Horford.
After her year as Miss Universe, Amelia Vega began to prepare for a career as a singer. At the same time, she is the owner of two clothing shops in Coral Gables, Essence by Amelia Vega.
Local press commented that for the ceremony, Vega chose a dress in white by local designer Belkola.
Her first album, Agua Dulce went on sale in August 2010. In the album, Vega herself wrote 3 of the 10 songs -- "Por ti," dedicated to her uncle Mario Polanco, who died in 2010, "Dentro de ti" and "Segunda oportunidad" - and performed a duet with merengue star Johnny Ventura entitled "Tocame la tambora."
Vega is a backup singer on the concert tour her uncle Juan Luis Guerra is currently making in Latin America.

How Amelia Vega first got her chance at fame
Amelia Vega's life changed forever when she won the Miss Universe contest in Panama in 2003. While the Dominican Republic had never won the contest, from day one she appeared a very strong contender, and a clear winner. Only 18 years old at the time, her natural charm, her smile, long legs and unexpected ease with words conquered all. Miss Universe organizer Donald Trump went on to name her as his favorite Miss Universe ever. In 2003, she also won the National Costume competition.

Baseball semi-finals start today
The Professional Winter Baseball Championship regular season ended with the two capital city teams, Licey and Escogido and the two central Cibao teams winning the right to start anew. 18 games are scheduled. Any one of the four teams could end up with the championship, and teams usually call on their Major League Baseball affiliates to bolster the teams. This means that here you have a chance of seeing some of the big league stars in an evening game, while enjoying your beach resort vacation time in the sun. Teams are playing in Santo Domingo and in Santiago and San Francisco de Macoris, the latter but an hour from Samana or Puerto Plata hotels. See the calendar for the round robin at www.lidom.com.do/calendarios.htm
The two winners of the semi-finals will then decide who will represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series that opens in Santo Domingo in 2 February 2012.
