Pueblo de Pescadores to open 1 December
The Pueblo de los Pescadores in Las Terrenas is preparing for a 1 December reopening in time for the start of the winter tourism high season and Christmas holidays. The row of beachfront restaurants and bars burned down on 7 May 2012 after a fire that began in one of the restaurants spread to the others. The restaurants reopening at the popular Las Terrenas eating spot include: One Love Surf Shack (American), La Salsa (International), Replay (Disco Bar), La Terrasse (French) and Pizza Playa.
New parking solution at Las Americas Airport
Parking at Las Americas International Airport serving Santo Domingo has been fully automated since 29 October. The new pay stations make payment for the service more efficient and considerably reduce the lines for leaving the airport. Aerodom says the new system cost half a million dollars.
With the service, users will have access to five automated tellers for payment, but there will also be a manually operated cashier. The system involved the installation of new entry and departure boxes, all solar-powered. A Parking Customer Service Station was installed (Centro de Atencion al Usuario del Establecimiento) on the first level, next to the Inposdom office.
Monika Infante, general director of Aerodom, the concessionaire for the airport, said: "This system is an integrated solution that enables us to efficiently manage a structure of great complexity with thousands of daily operations, as in the case of this airport."
Jose Baez, corporate manager for development of business units said that the new system provides a better service to the client. The process begins with the user pressing a button to take a ticket and the barrier will open. You need to keep the ticket. Before returning to your car, payment needs to be made at any of the ATMs located in the north, central or south walkways of the parking or in front of the elevator and the escalator of the first level of the passenger terminal. After making the payment, the passenger has a 15-minute time limit to leave the parking area. It is possible to pre-pay the parking and an express lane has been prepared for this purpose.
The parking solution was purchased from Meypar that has installed similar systems in airports in several countries including Mexico, Peru, Spain and Ecuador.
Anthony Bourdain films in the DR
Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations Season 9, Episode 9 was filmed in the Dominican Republic. In his show prepared for The Travel Channel, Bourdain tells it as he sees it. The show aired on Monday, 29 October and included visits to traditional 50-year old 24/7 sandwich place Barra Payan in Santo Domingo, at Daniel's in Playa Rincon, Samana, to Boca Chica, and to El Cabito in Las Galeras. Bourdain also ate salami street breakfast and roasted pork. His conclusion was that you visit "for the beach, the food, the people and the food!"

Lots of baseball games
While Hurricane Sandy did not pass near the Dominican Republic, it did bring lots of rain. As a result, 12 baseball games were suspended and still need to be played. So, there's a Dominican Winter Baseball League game being played almost every day in one of the five participating stadiums - Santo Domingo (Quisqueya), San Pedro de Macoris (Tetelo Vargas), La Romana (Francisco Micheli), San Francisco de Macoris (Julian Javier) or Santiago (Cibao).
