National Symphony Orchestra: another reason to visit Santo Domingo
Two memorable concerts will be held at the National Theater on Wednesday, 11 September and Thursday, 26 September. The National Symphony Orchestra concerts are another reason to include the city in travels to the Dominican Republic.
The Wednesday, 11 September concert at the National Theater will feature music by Kabalevsky, Kodaly and Grieg and starts at 8:30pm. Conducted by Caonex Peguero, the orchestra presents Peng-Peng Zhang as guest pianist. The program includes Dmitri Kabalevsky's Overture to Colas Breugnon Op 24, Zoltan Kodaly Hary Janos' Suite Op. 15 and Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op 16 for piano and orchestra.

Then on Thursday, 26 September, the National Symphony Orchestra Concert performs with conductors Antonio Molina, Julio de Windt and Jacinto Gimbernard at 8:30pm at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the National Theater. The guest performer will be Dale Clevenger. The program features music by Wagner, Tchaikovsky and Ravel. And there are two Dominican concerts by composers Aura Marina del Rosario and Bienvenido Bustamante.

Juan Luis Guerra on European tour
Have a Juan Luis Guerra memory ringing in your mind? The leading Dominican musician and performer is going on tour of Europe with stops in France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and England, plus Israel in October.
Guerra will perform at the Zenith in Paris on 5 October, on 8 October he will be in Brussels to play at the Cirque Royal, on 10 October he will be at the Star Event Center in Hannover, on 12 October he will be at the Ahoy in Rotterdam, and he appears at London's Royal Albert Hall on Monday, 14 October.
Juan Luis Guerra will also be performing in Israel for the first time on 16 October 2013. He will perform his "A Son de Guerra" show during a concert at Tel Aviv's Nokia Arena. He will then go on a personal tour of Israel.
Juan Luis Guerra and his 4.40 band have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, won two Grammy awards and 17 Latin Grammys, including one last year for best Contemporary Tropical Album. His big band style blending merengue, bachata and bolero with an Afro-pop/Latin fusion has gained him huge success across the Spanish-speaking world.
His eleventh and latest studio album, "A Son De Guerra", debuted at number one on the iTunes Latin chart in the US, Spain and Mexico on its first day and went on to reach No. 1 on the overall chart in Spain and Colombia ultimately winning a Latin Grammy for Album of the Year, the second time he has achieved that particular feat. The album features a duet with Colombian star Juanes on the song "La Calle".
New BA and Thomson direct flights from London make it easier to get to Punta Cana
Juan Luis Guerra will be performing at London's Royal Albert Hall on Monday, 14 October, just in time to inspire Londoners to fly to Guerra's home country for a vacation this winter season. British Airways and Thomson are adding more seats for winter and summer to facilitate travel.
British Airways is adding new air service from London-Gatwick to Punta Cana this winter season. The Ministry of Tourism announced that BA would be adding a third service to their regular schedule. Likewise, Thomson and First Choice have confirmed they will add direct Dreamliner flights from Glasgow Airport to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for summer 2014. The new weekly service to the Dominican Republic will start on 1 May and will run throughout the summer season.
Commenting on the introduction of the extra flights, the Dominican Republic UK and Ireland Director, Sabrina Cambiaso said, "The Ministry of Tourism's strategic vision will take the Dominican Republic into the next decade and expand on our amazing tourism success to date by increasing visitor numbers to the country and sharing with them our natural beauty, culture and friendly people. These extra flights strengthen and support a key part of our tourism strategy, which is to increase flights to the Dominican Republic".
Mobility scooters available in DR
Mobility scooters are now available for rent in the Dominican Republic. The service is available in Punta Cana, Bavaro, Puerto Plata, La Romana and Bayahibe.

The rentals can be pre-booked online or bookings can be arranged once in the DR.
