Puerto Plata prepares for Jazz Festival
The music concert of the year in Puerto Plata, this year's Dominican Republic Jazz Festival is bringing former New York Yankee and critically acclaimed jazz musician Bernie Williams, along with jazz legends Abraham Laboriel, Sr. (Mexico), Marco Pignataro (Italy), Ramon Vazquez (Puerto Rico), Grammy Award winner Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez (Cuba), Rufus Reid (USA), George Garzone (USA), Billy Drummond (USA), Alex Acuna (Peru), Richie Flores (Puerto Rico), and the Latin Grammy Award winners Johnny Ventura (Dominican Republic) and Milly Quezada (Dominican Republic). The festival will take place from Thursday 31 October to Sunday 3 November in Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete.
Now in its 17th year, the Festival is the longest-running jazz event in the Dominican Republic. The event is a free, multi-day festival that combines culture, entertainment and music education while featuring some of the world's best Latin jazz groups and musicians.
The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and JetBlue with the support of local businesses such as Millennium Resort & Spa, Sea Horse Ranch, Listin Diario and Cibao Recycling, as well as the Municipality of Sosua.

October 31 - Puerto Plata, Independence Park
November 1 - Sosua, Hotel Casa Marina Amphitheater
November 2-3 - Cabarete, Cabarete Beach

10k run in Bayahibe
The La Romana Bayahibe Hotel Association and the regional tourism cluster are organizing the 10K Bayahibe run for this coming Saturday, 28 September. Registration is RD$500 and the run starts at 5pm. The categories are Overall Men and Women, the first five places RD$15,000, RD$12,000, RD$9,000, RD$6,000 and RD$4,000. The first three winners in the categories are 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50+ will receive certificates for weekends for two and dinners in La Romana and Bayahibe hotels and restaurants.

5th Ibero-American Karate Championship
Sports tourism continues in Santo Domingo. The 5th Ibero-American and Caribbean Karate Tournament is being held in Santo Domingo from 3-6 October 2013 with competitors from 24 countries. The event is organized by the Dominican Karate Federation and will take place at the Volleyball Pavilion at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
Centro Leon celebrates its 10th year with Duarte exhibit
The leading Santiago museum, the Centro Leon has chosen to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Dominican Republic's main founding father, Juan Pablo Duarte, with an exhibition that also commemorates its own 10th anniversary. The exhibition will run from Thursday 3 October to Tuesday 31 December 2013. "Duarte. Collective Visions in Related Spaces" features more than 25 works by Dominicans living in the DR and abroad (Colectivo Dominican York-Proyecto Grafica). The exhibition originally went on show in the Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York in February 2013.
The exhibit commemorates the Centro Leon's 10th anniversary. On Sunday 6 October, there will be a big party with top merengue bands. From Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October, admission to the Centro Leon will be free.
