DR Golf Open
The 3rd Dominican Republic Professional Golf Open will take place at Teeth of the Dog in La Romana this year. The tournament is scheduled for May 2014. Cash prize money of US$150,000 has been set aside. The tournament is operated under the PGA Tour Latin America (Nec Series Tour). PGA Tour Latinoamerica president Jack Warfield was in Santo Domingo last Tuesday, 12 November to make the announcement. The PGA has been backing the Dominican Republic Open for the past two years.
Colonial Fest this week
The Colonial City of Santo Domingo comes alive with the Colonial Fest (CFEST2013) entertainment programs planned for this coming weekend, Friday 22, Saturday 23, and Sunday 24 November.
There will be DJs, fashion shows, live music, art, cultural displays and much more. "This version of the Colonial Festival of Santo Domingo has a cultural program with art and music, and more than 50 live performances, carnival displays, theater, craft fairs, longer opening hours at the museums, restaurants with special deals in variety and price, bars with special deals, gastronomic festival, Dominican sweets festival, along with other events during the three days and nights," said general coordinator Lisandro Macarrulla. It is estimated that more than 150,000 people attended last year's events.

Epifanio Lantigua Tourism Awards
Yamira Taveras has won the grand prize in the 10th Epifanio Lantigua Tourism Awards. She writes for Hoy newspaper in Santiago. Anya del Toro of CDN Investiga won the award for the best TV report. Negro Santos of Santo Domingo Invita was recognized for the best tourism documentary, and Millizen Uribe of Hoy is the best in digital media. The sustainable tourism award went to journalists Grisbel Medina and Jesenia de Moya of Listin Diario in Santiago. In the category of tourism on the sea, Alex Jimenez of Primicias was recognized. The best photographer was Juan Felix Sangionanni of Expreso Santo Domingo. The most outstanding tourism reporter of the year in Puerto Plata was Felix Sosa Lantigua, of El Faro. The jury said that Listin Diario was the media outlet that gave the most outstanding coverage to the tourism industry.
Play golf in Puerto Plata
The North Coast Hotel Association (Asonorte) is hosting a benefit golf tournament, the Puerto Plata Golf Classic in support of the tourism awareness program carried out by the association. It will take place on Saturday, 23 November at the Robert Trent Jones-designed Playa Dorada Golf Course, as of 9am (shotgun).
It will be played in Pairs Golf Scramble modality with four categories of prizes:
A, 0-14 handicap, B from 15 to 24, Senior from 60+ and Ladies. Registration is RD$4,500 per person and opens on Wednesday, 20 November.
Ashonorte promotes golf as one of the destination's leading attractions.
As part of the tournament, the prizes include a vehicle for the player who makes a hole in one, airfare raffles, weekends at hotels, restaurant dinners, excursions and more.
Benefits will be used to develop the tourism awareness program, "Smile! You are Puerto Plata" launched in May. Puerto Plata tourism professionals are visiting schools in the city to complement the education of the students, sharing knowledge on the importance of caring for the north coast's natural, cultural and historical heritage.
