It's Carnival time!
Every Sunday in February is time for carnival. The most famous Dominican carnival celebrations take place in La Vega (with the traditional diablo cojuelo characters), Bonao (macaraos), and Santiago (lechones). In Puerto Plata there is also a carnival at the Central Park where the traditional carnival character is the "taimascaro".
The National Carnival Parade then takes place in Santo Domingo on Sunday,
1 March 2015 and on 7 March 2015 in Punta Cana. In both locations a selection of the best carnival troupes from all over the country will be taking part.
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo will host the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week from 27-30 April 2015. National and international fashion designers will showcase their collections at the Mercedes Benz showroom on Av. Winston Churchill. The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has been held in New York, Sydney, Berlin, Panama, Russia, Madrid, Stockholm and Mexico.
Dominican designers Jenny Polanco, Carlos Frank Then, Angie Polanco and Hippolito will be showing their collections.
As announced, Mercedes Benz has partnered with MAC Cosmetics for the makeup for the runway shows. Hair has been entrusted to Dominican stylists who are already famous around the world.
Federman Cruz is coordinating the event and the runway director will be Marianne Cruz who was Miss Dominican Republic 2008 and second runner-up at Miss Universe 2008.
The organizers say the show seeks to help the DR keep up-to-date with the newest trends and styles and prove to the world that its beloved fashion designer Oscar de la Renta left a great legacy to the up-and-coming designers.

Snow in Constanza
The Ministry of Tourism's advertising promotion slogan describes the Dominican Republic as a land that "has it all." Now, with climate change and all, the Dominican Republic can also claim to have snow!
Constanza is known as the coldest part in the country, with chilly nighttime temperatures all year round. The town of Constanza is located between 1,150 and 1,250 meters above sea level in a valley situated between the highest mountains in the Caribbean, in the Central Mountain Range, the Cordillera Central, sometimes called the Alps of the Caribbean with peaks ranging from 1,000 to 2,800 meters.
Sub-zero temperatures are rare but not unheard of, and many vacation homes and small hotels have chimneys for the colder days.
The lowest registered temperature in the city is minus -2C, while the lowest in the Valle Nuevo area was -8C. The Ministry of Environment has a station in Valle Nuevo for stops.
This week, snow was recorded and local radio station Orbita929 has been sharing a video of this unusual event.
