Jenny Polanco tells her story at Altos de Chavon
Eminent Dominican fashion designer Jenny Polanco presents "Design to Express Identity" at Altos de Chavon. The exhibition is open through 21 September 2015. The exhibition, which is curated by Sara Herman with photography by Tiziano de Stefano, tells the fashion designer's story and showcases the many artistic aspects of her work throughout her career. In March, Polanco was invited to present a segment of her work at the Unesco headquarters in Paris to commemorate International Women's Day 2015. At the opening of the exhibition in Paris, the Dominican ambassador to Unesco, Laura Faxas stated that Jenny Polanco was a pioneer in our country. Faxas said that Jenny Polanco's creations have their roots in Dominican heritage and are inspired by traditional handicrafts, gastronomy, climate, diverse ethnic representations, flora and fauna, and the rhythms and tastes of the Dominican Republic to create a product that combines the Caribbean identity and sensitivity with a high sense of quality and reflecting a national identity.
Asonahores Trade Show to honor Simon Barcelo
The Dominican Republic National Hotel & Tourist Association (Asonahores) is holding its annual trade show at the Barcelo Bavaro Convention Center from 9-11 September 2015. Now in its 29th year, the event is dedicated to the Barcelo hotel chain and its president, don Simon Barcelo. Barcelo was the first Spanish hotel chain to invest in the Dominican Republic when it opened the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort in Punta Cana in 1985.
Discover Puerto Plata set for 6-10 October
Puerto Plata is hosting Discover Puerto Plata once again this year. The event takes place from 6 to 10 October 2015. Discover Puerto Plata is the north coast destination's leading marketing event. Travel agents, tour operators and tourism product suppliers from the north coast will be taking part along with key Ministry of Tourism officials.
Discover Puerto Plata's official opening takes place on Wednesday, 7 October with a cocktail reception at the Hotel Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort, which is hosting the event. On Thursday, 8 October, a Fiesta Puerto Plata will be held, also at the Hotel Lifestyle, with a performance featuring the variety of dance styles that are part of Dominican history.
According to the organizers, there will be a choice of pre-and post tours on 6 and 10 October to World Adventure Park, Puerto Plata city tour, and a Sosua and Cabarete tour including a visit to Cabarete caves.
The closing date for registration for Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace is 1 September 2015.

Sammy Sosa to be inducted to Latino Hall of Fame
Sammy Sosa will be inducted together with several other Latin American baseball legends during the 2-5 December 2015 ceremonies at the La Romana-based Latino Baseball Hall of Fame. The announcement was made on MLB Network on Friday, 21 August 2015.
Sosa ended his career with 609 homeruns, and was the 1998 NL MVP with the Cubs and had four consecutive seasons of 50 homeruns or more.
The other players chosen for this year were Orlando Hernandez, Jesse Orosco, Edgar Renteria, Ivan Rodriguez, and Omar Vizquel and Hiram Bithorn.
The Latino Baseball Hall of Fame honors Latin American players and their contributions to baseball. Previous inductees include Pedro Martinez, Roberto Alomar, Luis Aparicio, Luis Arroyo, Rod Carew, Orlando Cepeda, Roberto Clemente, Juan Marichal, Tony Oliva, Tony Perez and Luis Tiant.
